Re: I Got it!!!!

V, what do you do now?

Re: I Got it!!!!

Kathleen if you are reading this, what do you do? An English Degree sounds like a good background for Library Science. If you enroll in a library science program and decide to go for a position in Queens or NYPL, they help pay for your education. If you need more info. let me know.

Re: I Got it!!!!

Michelle, I am actually in property management (real estate). I kind of just fell into it. Upon graduating college, I applied to quite a few positions at NYPL. Never with any response.

Re: I Got it!!!!

i'm in the legal department in a publishing company. it's a real snore fest. b/c i never had any library experience, except for work study in college and an internship in grad school, people are very reluctant to hire me

Re: I Got it!!!!

I'm sorry. It seems experience is so important. What is the work study job you had? Is it possible (I don't know how this works though) to get a job albeit lower paying as a clerk and advance that way once you are in the library? I'm sorry you are having a difficult time.

Re: I Got it!!!!

Kathleen, I got the impression they want to hire people they see are taking classes towards their Master in Library Science (NYPL).

Re: I Got it!!!!

Thanks Michelle!! I could definitely see them hiring more of those that would want to pursue the degree.

Your welcome Kathleen.

Re: I Got it!!!!

my work study was behind the circ desk. it was actually fun b/c i got to talk to so many people. i wish i could take a lower-paying job just to get my foot in the door, but we'd never be able to afford our apt if i did. i'll just keep my chin up, thank god i have a job at all, and keep sending out resumes

but enough about me! do you know when you start yet? do you rotate through different areas of the library like reference, children's etc or do you pick one area?
