I got my first...(update)

...person being invited with a guest and then responding with a total of four people! This is FMIL's cousin from New Mexico who she hasnt seen in like 20 years. She responded that she is bringing a date - however she will also be bringing her daughter and her 10 yr old granddaughter. Meanwhile - we aren't having any children under the age of 18 at our wedding. FMIL was kinda embarrassed about it so she called her cousin yesterday, and her cousin got pissed and responded well you should have said no children on the invitation and she thought she could bring whomever she wanted. FMIL apologized and said, apparently nicely, she was invited with one guest and not 3. Well, her cousin then responded well forget it, I don't want to come now if I can't bring my daughter and granddaughter. Ugh... the nerve of some people!

UPDATE: ok - I have an update on my issue from yesterday (and trying to calm myself down...still). FMIL got an email response from her cousin saying that she is now definitely not coming, and the invitation wording was not clear (!) and that the bride should have worded the invitation differently. W T F - how is Ms. Jane Schmo and Guest not clear?!?! We didn't say Ms. Jane Schmo and GuestS. Ugh...ok, I am done ranting about this - I swear.

I do feel bad for FMIL as she is kinda in an email argument over the whole thing...ugh.

Oh well......4 less people you need to pay for!

What NERVE!! I was about to say, 'why don't people know that weddings are expensive,' but since she's from New Mexico, she's probably not used to New York weddings, which are much more lavish and expensive than most other states' weddings. Weddings are sooooo much different out of state it's ridiculous! She probably doesn't realize that it's more than $50 a plate and therefore thinks it's okay to bring a few guests.

That is pretty crazy though... THREE guests?? I think you were bring nice in allowing her to have ONE!

i haven't even sent out my invites yet but i already got one of these. my dad said his cousin wants to come with her husband but they live in tn so they want to go to nyc with her daughter and granddaughter for vacation the week before she they want to bring them to the wedding. since my dad only put like 25 ppl on the list i let these 2 slide but that's it! no more!

I've been told by people, 'well you know my family will feel bad if you dont invite them too' I felt like I had a Kill Bill moment!

know what? screw her! people are clueless and rude and you clearly invited 2 people not 4. I get that she has a kid etc but that's her problem not yours. I mean my dogs are like my kids. If we were invited somewhere out of state would I bring them? ugh.

and no one is close to them anyway so you have no worries there right?

I don't understand how people can think 'guest' means 3 extra people.
