I got my veil but I didn't need an entourage...lesson learned

I got my veil but I didn't need an entourage...lesson learned

I went to Barron's at Tri-County today to order a veil. The people there couldnt have been more helpful and accommodating - highly recommended.

BUT

I made the mistake of bringing too many people. I should have just gone alone! I brought my mother, my two sisters (one of which brought my nephew) and the aide that helps my mom. What the EFF did I do this for? Was I on drugs? Too many opinions. Too many arguments. And my mom, in classic style said 'I don't know why I bothered coming' because I didnt want what SHE wanted.

I ended up getting what I wanted (because I am the one who needs to be happy) - a three tier fingertip veil in off white with a hint of edging . The same simple veil elsewhere would have cost about $275 more. Since I do not plan on wearing my veil all night, I saw no need to spend that kind of money. AND you can see my dress through the back - THAT was important because the beauty of my dress is the back NOT the front. If people are going to be staring at my back for a half hour, I want them ooh-ing and ahh-ing!

So let this be a lesson to you all my dear 06ers. If you don't have to bring people with you to buy stuff, DON'T!!!!

I would have if I could have but my dress isnt white. It is pearl and I would have, for sure, ordered the wrong color tulle.

Leslie this is a very good lesson. I learned the same thing when I was dress shopping. When I brought too many people, all the conflicting opinions made me start to doubt my own judgement. I started going alone and ended up finding my dress just like that...alone! So happy you found your veil!

I am just glad there are enough opportunities to divide up the GOWN fittings. I am taking my mother to all of them because shes paying and well, shes my mom. (Insert XANAX here). I will take one sister to the visitation on Tuesday. One sister will go to one fitting and my FMIL will be invited to the last one where no matter how many opinions are stated, it won't matter one bit! One has to plan ya know!

I got my gown, veil and tiara all by myself. At first I was sad that no one lives on Long Island to help me. Now I'm glad.

Sorry it was so chaotic Leslie, but I'm glad you got what YOU wanted.

Yes I come from a semi-long line of control freaks with two much older sisters who like to be in charge. I asked my mother is my grandmother took the reins when SHE got married and she said no. Why should my wedding be different!

I feel your pain. I'm already worrying about goign to choose the gown in a few months, because of who I'll have to bring with me. I'll have to rbing my mom and my sister, but my sister has SUCH different tatse than i do. She can't go on enough about how she hates strapless gowns. and I LOVE strapless gowns, and that's just one thing. My mom I don't mind so much...except that I know she'll tell me at least 10 times that I need to lose weight and she'll make me cry. I think I need to bring my best friend along for balance.

I'm glad we;re not talking to FMIl thought, b;c when we were getting along, she thought she was coming. Now I don't have to have that conversation

When I went to look at dresses for the very 1st time, I went completely solo. I picked out my dress that day then and there. I then told everyone that I already picked out my dress, so if they want to see it they are more then welcome to come with me to view it.

i made sure to communicate clearly its been done and there will be no changes in my decision - it helped make that stress-free (now, picking out the BM dresses was another story.... but thats because they were all involved...)

I learned the hard way too, when I brought too many people gown shopping. What a mess...now, whenever I bring along someone, it's to show them my decision, not to help me make one - this way their only comments can be those I want to hear!
