I GOT THE RING!!!!

Hello everyone...I just got engaged this weekend!!!! Yeah I am so excited and now I am ready to hit the ground running with planning. Since I knew it was coming I have done some preliminary investigation into halls and the like...I live in Brookyln but everything is so expensive in the city I think we would consider a LI hall. I have been to events at Eastwind, Coral House and some others. We are shooting for a fall wedding..early Oct maybe in 2001. I am looking to stay under 60pp including tax & tip and would like someplace with an outdoor ceremony site, wither a garden or waterfront. Also something not too too far for my nyc relatives and friends. Any suggestions???? This is so exciting!!!

I am getting married in February 2001 on a Friday evening, and I am paying half of the price you quoted. I am having a full cocktail hour, mid priced dinner menu, open bar, centerpieces included and viennese tables. I am not familiar with the Inwood Country Club though, but IMO February is a supposedly an "off" month, so they should be able to do alot better on the price

After reading so many messages, I see that there maybe too many Jennifers so I am going to post my messages as Jenny B. My middle name is Beth. :-)

I GOT THE RING!!!!

Hi Jennifer B,

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

There's a magazine called "Weddings Facilities & Services" for $4.95. This was very helpful to me. It gives you all the reception sites in the 5 boroughs and Westchester anf Jersey. Info includes price pp outdoor or indoor ceremony, menus and packages.

Happy Planning!

Congratulations! :)

I live in Queens - we're neighbors! Sort of....

From the pricing I did for our wedding this past March....$60 including tax & tip is pretty aggressive....Esp for October, which is considered a popular month. Are you OK w/an afternoon Sunday wedding? Might be your best bet. Many places will give you a discount Nov - Mar which might work for you..but you'd have to give up an outdoor reception.

Happy Planning!

Amazingly I had just so happened to get a manicure the day he proposed. The proposal was simple but romantic. We had plans to go out and I was sitting on the front steps of his house waiting for him and talking on the cordless. (He was very late...so I was kinda complaining :-) Anyway..I saw him from a distance as he came walking down the street. He had flowers. When he got up to me I said "flowers are not going to make up for being late!" And he said maybe this will...he got on one knee and started talking I started crying I looked inside the bouquet of red roses...there was one white and in the center of the white was the ring...sparlking and beautiful. I can't stop looking at it...I am very excited and overwhelmed at a little scared all at the same time...But I couldnt be happier.

I assume that the blusher would come off right after my parents walk me down the isle before the vows. I think??

CONGRATS! UR IN THE RITE PLACE!

WELCOME TO THE CLUB...actually, I am one of the ones who has "done it!"...married on 7/2/00 and orig from bklyn too. LI places suited us better since we wanted the ceremony outside and reception in the same place, and it needed to have nice grounds to take pictures. may wan to think about a fri night or sun pm for the price you quoted for Oct. We thought all along that sat night was all we wanted. but sticker shock set in and we changed it to sun afternoon.

best advice is to start early on everything.Worked for me...and gave me the time to run around crazy on the little things the month b4.

Good luck!

I GOT THE RING!!!!

Jenny B;

Check out Leonard's of Great Neck, that's where we are having our reception for just slightly more than your budget - 4-28-01 on a Saturday afternoon. (http://www.leonardscatering.com) The pictures on the web are not very good, go out and visit. It's convenient to the city, LIRR (Great Neck stop) and the airports.

I didn't ask about outdoor ceremonies, because we are getting married at a chuch in Bayside, but they do have a small area for photos, and an outdoor cocktail area attached to one of the rooms, so there may be other options, maybe a garden around back.

To Jenn B & Katherine, Congratulations and Happy Planning. Like Nicky said I would also highly reccomend that you get the Weddings Facilities & Services Magazine. It provides to be a great resource in helping narrow down your choices.

Just remember to enjoy yourselves and try not to let the planning stress you out

Congratulations!!!!

Congratulations Jenn B and Katherine!! It is so exciting to just get engaged...I was on cloud nine for weeks!!:):) Enjoy the planning and hopefully both of you will come to the get together next week!! :):)

My finace & I have been living together for over two years. What we found is the best for us is to keep a joint account for all "apartment" expenses. That includes rent, utilities and monthly expenses like food and going out, and we also add extra for savings.

We each keep our own spendings seperate. I pay my own bills from my own account and he pays his. This solves the problem. We have our private finances and our joint finances.

I GOT THE RING!!!!

Congratulations...when I first got engaged, having the ring was like having a new baby, I didn't know how to take care of it. haha One word of advice, make it a rule that if you ever take it off, always put it in only one place - a ring holder or the box. I found this to be a very good habit. :-) Enjoy the process...this is a very happy time.

I'll tell you what works for us (we have been living together for 6 years - only combined accounts 2 years ago). Since we both make about the same, my paycheck goes into checking and his goes into savings. All the bills get paid out of checking and if necessary we dip into the savings. He is a great saver (and of course I am a great spender) so this system seems to work out good so far.

I GOT THE RING!!!!

To Everyone.....Thanks so much!!! I'm soooo happy and i still haven't told all of my family yet!! I come from a very large (on Both sides, me) family, his family is very small, both of his parents are deceased. But tonight i'm going to my cousin's house for a candle party and she doesn't know yet, so some of them will be there. I can't wait. I 've decided that she will be my MOH. He proposed on our boat on sunday August 6th,in the rain at our fishing spot!!! It was great!! And yes I picked out the ring, but that was a long time ago and i had no idea that he would remember!!! I can't stop looking at it!!!Wedding date will be officially set when I close on my house that I'm trying to sell, so please wish me luck, but we have a date in mind and a place. So now,I'm going to try and plan other things and get this house sold...Thanks again to everyone and I'll be talking with you soon!!! Kat

Well in that case I should be able to make it next week!!
