I had mentioned in an earlier post (VERY LONG) UPDATE!!

I had mentioned in an earlier post (VERY LONG) UPDATE!!

That FH NEVER (not even once) got me flowers. I asked him to please write me an explanation... Here ya go ...

Why I don't like buying flowers:

5) Flowers are a thoughtless gift. Flowers are the easiest, lamest, last-minute, copout, I-don't-know-anything-about-the-girl-or-girls-I'm-currently-dating-so-I'll-get-this
present. I don't think this is even a secret to women, since we make no effort to hide it. Somewhere along the way society somehow lowered the bar on gifts and women said, 'Okay, how about this: we'll accept anything.'
And guys said, 'Deal!' And the rest was misery. Well call me old-fashioned but I still happen to believe that it's the thought that counts. Even picking out a card that someone else wrote is better than flowers. At least you picked the card...

4) Flowers smell bad. I know you're going to argue with this one, but they don't smell good. They smell like plants. Sometimes plants smell okay, sometimes they smell weird. But in a crowded room, weird crushes okay, so having worked in a flower shop, I am permanently turned off by flowers. And honestly, if flowers smelled so good then why don't you wear perfume that smells exactly like flowers? You won't because you don't want everyone calling you 'grandma.'

3) Flowers die in a week. Why would you get someone something that they can't use for anything, take with them anywhere, and that will be ugly in a week? I never understood this. Maybe if you could plant them, that would make sense. But you can't. Look, if you're asking for a cactus as a present, I'll get you a cactus, but you just ruined your birthday.

2) Flowers are only requested by women so they can shove them in other women's faces. Don't even try to dispute this one. I worked in an office that was entirely female and every time someone got flowers all the hens started clucking. 'Who would give HER flowers?' 'She only got a dozen?'
'What are those, carnations? Ew!' The recipient happily places them prominently on her desk and all that's missing is an Ask Me About My Flowers sign. You may indeed counter, 'Well what's the difference between that and an engagement ring?' Um, you're right. There isn't. But we still like having sex with you sooo....engagement rings are completely valuable and not at all pretentious.

1) Flowers are gay.

**** He just sent me another email ...

But its not like Id NEVER get you flowers.

Now that you all know - I'll keep you all posted when/if I ever receive them ...

Here's my one liner that works 100% of the time..

I do see your point to an extent. But, since you now know it's important to me and I would LOVE to receive flowers at some point do what you think is best. Yes it's backing him into a corner but whatever. It works lol.

And tell him it makes it more personal if you have a favorite flower and not just go with the typical rose.

Personally I LOVE Lilly's of the Valley and Lilacs.

Oh.. and to counter point #4... to compromise ask for flowers AND seeds so you CAN have them come back year after year.

I kinda agree w/ him though. I never felt like I wanted flowers - if he got them for me, great but honestly I certainly don't *expect* them from him and if I received flowers at work, I'd feel more publicly embarrassed than anything else

Re: I had mentioned in an earlier post (VERY LONG) UPDATE!!

i saw this once and your FH reminded me of it (sorry it's long):

Potatoes are better at representing love than the current symbol of the flower. There are a lot of reasons why potatoes excel at this.

The first reason is that roses only last a couple weeks and that's if you leave them in water. That's like saying 'My love for you is transitory'. But a potato! Potatoes last for a long time. In fact, not only will they not rot, but they actually grow stuff even if you just leave them in the sack! That part alone makes it a good symbol. But wait, there's more!

There are so many ways to enjoy a potato! You can even make a battery with it! That's like saying: 'I have many ways in which I show my love for you'.

Flowers really only exist to be pretty so that's like saying: 'My love for you is based solely on your appearance'. Potatoes may be ugly, but they're still awesome. So that's like saying: 'It doesn't matter at all what you look like, I'll still love you'.

For these reasons and more, we would like to see potatoes become the mainstream symbol for love and friendship.

So on Valentine's Day, anniversaries, birthdays, and ANY other gift giving occasion: save a flower, give a potato.

That's funny! He's good!

You know what though? I still love flowers. I don't care for showing them off though. I don't like getting them at work. I like them displayed at home. They cover the garbage smell

I agree with all his points....well maybe except the gay one. Then again, I dont like flowers. I'd rather my FH get me something that will last. He knows better than to buy me flowers. The way to my heart is chocolate

I completely disagree.
I love flowers for special occassions or even just b/c
flowers, IMO anyway, make everything look festive. that is why ppl for centuries been putting flowers all over their house as an ornament.
flowers are gorgeous and make any room look even more beutiful. if it wasnt so, why would any of us would get CP's for the wedding???
in my family we get flowers for each other all the time, even for men's bdays. flowers make ppl happy and that is a fact. (unless u dont like flowers, but that is ur own personal preference, generally this is true for everyone)
and for the why get them if they die anyway argument: we poop daily why then eat????
sheesh, boys and their 'logic'

Your FH is definitely a keeper!!! I don't love getting flowers that will die...but FH has taken to buying me potted flowers that will continue to bloom or that we can eventually plant outside and enjoy for years to come

Hes definitely a keeper and I agree with his points! I mean it doesnt hurt to get a single rose out of nowhere for no reason...but for the price of flowers now, he can take you out to dinner and thats more sentimental

i like getting flowers...

for absolutely no reason.

i hate getting flowers for valentine's day, birthday, blah blah blah.

i always ask FH to make me a card. and we have some cute ones we've made eachother. i'd rather him take 20 minutes to draw me a picture of something funny or write me a note.

flowers ARE sort of a non-thinking gift.

unless they get you your fav type of flower.

in which case, FH is lucky. cuz you all know i love carnations. lol... and daisies.

His reasons are EXACTLY why I tell FH never to get me flowers!! He hates that he can't just buy me flowers or jewelry like every other guy does, haha. Sorry FH, you don't get off that easy!
