I had my 1st doctor's appointment yesterday...but

I didn't like the doctor. She's a new doctor at Long Island Women's Health Group in Mineola. The only reason I went to her was because Dr. Levine wasn't there on that day and I wanted the test done ASAP.

I got my blood taken and they gave me an exam. She asked me if this was good news and my age. Okay...I may look young but I'm 28 and YES this is good news.

Afterwards, my DH and I met in her office and she asked if I had any questions.
Since this is my first pregnancy, don't you think she should be telling me all the details? I was so confused!!! She told me then about tuna, shellfish, sushi , coffee, processed meats, and that was about it. I also asked her about getting my acrylic nails done and she said she's never heard of staying away from that!

SOOO...I'm now 5 weeks and my due date is June 4th. I have to call tomorrow for the results of the blood test....duh....you're pregnant. Then I have a sonogram in two weeks. I want Dr. Levine back....

Ask for the other doctor!!!!

Was it the new lady, Dr. Rehan I think it is? I don't care for her too much either. I called over the weekend to get an emergency refill on a prescription and she was quite nasty. My mom uses Dr. Levine too and he was out one day so my mom had to see her and she seriously did not know what she was talking about, my mom had Osteopenia and she was telling her she had full osteoperosis and she bacically scared the crap out of my mom. Thankfully her chiropractor was able to translate the results and explain to her she didn't have osteoperosis. Next time you have to go, tell them you will basically see anyone but her. I understand she is new, but she really needs to work on her people skills, especially with new mommies!! Good Luck!! And Congrats!!

I was just going to ask that!! Is it a practice that who ever is on duty is the doctor that will deliver?
I am part of a practice also, 7 doctors, and from what I understand thats what happens.
I am so sorry you visit wasnt the best. Sometimes doctors can be so insensitive. This is a very exciting time for you!!!!! Hopefully the next visit will be much better. I think seeing the sonogram will definitely cheer you up

I go to the same place and I've had Dr. Rohan once, I thought she was OK. Keep in mind that a practice like that they will try to get you to meet every doctor because you do not know who will be on call the day you go into labor... I was very upset when I found this out because I really like Dr. Levine as well, but what can I do.

I've seen all the Docs who deliver and my favorites, other than Levine are

Dr. Valderrama - she looks bitchy, but soooo nice
Dr. Nodelman

Dr. Leiberman, is OK - she doesn't give me the sympathy I need sometimes, lol...

ETA - I felt like I was being blown off with my first visit as well and I HAD Dr. Levine. He whipped through the list of DO's and DO NOTs that I walked out so confused! Not that I'm making excuses for her, but he may not have made you feel as good either...

Thanks for the update Octbride on the different doctors! I am seeing Nodelman next Thursday for a checkup....glad he's ok too....

You're welcome! I was nervous about seeing Nodelman for some reason because I knew he was a guy, but he was very nice and made me feel like I was doing all the right things...

I too am a patient of these doctors. You have pretty much summed up how I feel about each one of them to the tee. For some reason, my whole family loves Dr. Lieberman, but to be honest with you, I am really nota big fan. I am hoping she will not be on call when I go ino labor. I acually have to seee her Saturday morning.

I had Dr. Rohan, that's her name. I agree, her people skills are not the best. I was just very insulted by her looks, comments (...So this is a good thing??? HOW old are you?) and lack of information...I felt like I was pulling teeth with her!!!

Please take this advice from someone who should have switched providers- if you don't like a doctor leave the practice. There is a chance this person will be with you when you deliver your baby and IMO you should have someone you like, trust and feel comfortable with. There are too many OBs on LI to get stuck with one you don't really like.

The blood test is necessary and every office does one to confirm your pregnancy and it also shows your levels. Low levels could mean a problem so that is why it is important.
