I had my shower this weekend too. (long)

They tried to surprise me but I have known for a while which day it was. My mom and stepmother threw it for me at Anna Maria's in Kings Park. The place is wonderful. It is a small Italian resturant, fits up to 45ish people comfortable. They closed the resturant on Saturday afternoon for us. The food is amazing!! Tons of people called my stepmother later that day to tell her how great the place was. I had 28 people (out of the 44 that were invited- but that is another story). Great service too.
I got a beautiful Lane Hope Chest from my stepmom, which I have always wanted. My bow hat is super amazing. Instead of a paper plate they used a straw type beach hat. My BMs got me a day spa at the Red Door Salon!!! And some of them chipped in to purchase mini-cakes as favors. I love mini-cakes and wanted them for the wedding but they are very expensive ($7+ each) so they got them for me as shower favors from www.justincakes.com. Michele, the owner, was wonderful and they looked beautiful. SonicStef gave me a beautful HM bag filled with a book on Africa, sunscreen, bug spray, his and her sunglasses, chapstick, a stuffed lion. It was a great gift. Claud2001 made me a hat box wedding cake that was truly stunning. Even with a new baby to care for and moving across country back home she found time to put this togther for me. Each layer had different gifts for my HM in it.
My Mother made me a cross stitch because my grandmother died 3 1/2 years ago and she always made them for me on special occassions. My mom is not a crafty, sewing type person so this was A LOT of work for her to do. She wrote on the card 'from my hands and grandma's heart'. I almost lost it right then and there but I kept it togehter till I got home. Then I cried.
My sister (Maid of Honor) gave a quick toast in the beginning and said I was not only her sister but her best friend. Again, thought I would cry for hours.
And my best friend Barbara's 14 year old girl, my BM, wrote in my guest book 'I will always think of you as my 2nd mother'. I read that in the car on the way home and yes, cried, cried, cried.
I was sad when it was over. The hours flew by and I felt like I didn't talk to the guests enough. I just know the wedding will fly by too.

Isn't it the best feeling when you realize all these people came to YOUR party?

Thanks for sharing your story, I'm crying again. You ladies are killing me today. It sounds like the people that did come truly love you(& FI)& put alot of thought into your day, that's what matters!

Michele, from reading your earlier posts, we know that the shower and the planning leading up to it were not easy for you. I'm so happy to hear that everything worked out well. I'm alittle choked up just reading your post (esp. the cross stitching)-I can't imagine being able to keep it all together!!

It sounds like you have some very special and thoughtful family and friends!

You're heading into the home stretch, now...have fun!!!!

Thanks everyone. The day was great. Just over too quickly.
My FH's family is from MA and things are done very differently up there. They just do not put the same time and effort into weddings/showers etc... That has been very hard for me to adjust to. I am not used to a BM blowing off a bride's shower. I am not sure if I can get used to that way of things. But luckily we live here so I don't have to.
