I had to put my yellow lab to sleep this morning...

I had to put my yellow lab to sleep this morning...

I am so upset...I can't really think of anything else. He was going to be 13 in July, but how do you prepare for this? We had to do this before, with the yellow lab we had before Simba, but I was younger. It has been getting harder and harder for him to get around these last few months, and he can't play like he used to. Yesterday, I knew he was acting strange, he was not sleeping, but just laying around and staring into space. My mom got home from New Orleans last night, and I told her I was worried about him. 30 minutes later, she calls me into the kitchen, he had fallen and couldn't get up...1 minute later he is urinating everywhere. We called my dad to come bring us to the emergency vet, and when we got into the truck, he was calm...and relaxed. Even at the vets, he wasn't shaking, which he normally would be. They ran tests, and the x-rays found that he has a huge mass on his spleen, which had been pushing his organs aside, and causing his Blood Pressure to drop, and he couldn't walk because of it. We could have put him through surgery, but it was probably cancerous, and probably had spread to other organs. We decided to put him down. It was very traumatizing...I feel sick today. I don't have the heart to move his bed...and my other dog is moping around the house. He was the best dog, so obedient, so loyal. So many great memories...I almost feel foolish to be so sad over a dog....but he was a part of my family, and we were best buds. Well...I just needed to vent. My FH has been so great with this....

I AM SOOO SORRY!! It is so hard to see them suffer, but you did the right thing. It is the hardest thing to see your pup in pain!

Thanks for the well wishes...I am feeling a little better today...my FH is so cute, and concerned...but I feel that most of the people that I tell, are like...'OH'...cause I guess he was just my dog...but he was more a part of the family...

Thanks so much! It has been 5 days...and it has gotten better....but at night is when it is at its worst...he used to sleep on his bed next to me (which I haven't had to heart to move yet)...and tomorrow we are giong to pick his ashes up...still not sure what we are going to do with them. We were thinking of sprinkling them in the bay, because we brought him down there a lot, and he lovvvved to swim. It gets me upset to think I will never see or touch him again....*sigh* ...but we still have our other dog to keep us company.

Last February I had to put my dog to sleep. I still cry more often than I feel I should about it. I don't know if I will ever be over it. I still miss him so incredibly much. It is the worst loss I have ever felt in my life, even more than people who have passed on that were close to me. I completely understand your loss and hope with time your heart will be begin to heal.
