Just spent an entire weekend with my immediate family at a lake house upstate. This will be my last time doing that!!! One of my brothers got drunk both days and was obnoxious...
The other was okay until the the first got drunk and obnoxious. Then the second became an A$$.
Then I talked to my father today, and I found out that my extended family want to find a hotel with a bar in order to celebrate my cousin's 40th birthday, which is the day after my wedding. I was planning on having people come back to a bar in the town I grew up in. So apparently my cousin's birthday is more important then the fact that I just got married. This whole thing stinks and I cant wait till I get married so I dont have to deal with my family any more. I'm sick of them all!!!!

Did your family know you were planning something for the next day? I'm sure they are happy for you -they're coming to your wedding, just as they are happy to share your cousin's birthday after your wedding. I think you're being a little too hard on them.

I understand how you might want to get mad at first, but maybe they didn't know that you were planning something. Weddings can be a lot for people, and although the gesture to plan something the next day is very nice, you can't begrudge someone their birthday celebration. Maybe you could do something special to honor this person's birthday and have a combination?

I'm talking about the night of my wedding. My reception ends at 5:30pm and I was planning on having them come out to a bar after the reception. Apparently, my cousin's birthday is more important than the fact I got married that day!

Oh I though you said the day after your wedding. If they didn't know, let them know there is an after-party, you can always sing Happy Birthday at the party.

OHHHHHHHHHHHH.....I seriously thought you meant the day AFTER! Oh, in that case, I would definitely make it clear there is an afterparty! Shout it out loud if need be

I would try to combine the two without making a big deal about it. They probably didn't realize that you were planning an afterparty, tell them you want to combine it and i am sure it will all work out.

One of my friends had a little cake brought out to her aunt during her wedding. She was close to her aunt and just wanted her to know she remembered! If youre close to her maybe you could try something like that... I would be upset with your family... but suggest something else... maybe the night before.. at the rehearsal dinner.... My niece is turning two the day before my wedding.. She is in my BP, and during my RD I am having a birthday cake there for her... Something should be done.. it shouldnt take the light off of you though! Talk to your aunt, let her know how you feel! Good luck!
