I hate my school!!!

As I am sure you have seen on TV or in the paper, C.W. Post faculty is on strike. Well, the past two days I have gone out there for class and been told to go home because my teacher is striking. I am getting kind of PISSED. Not only am I wasting my time and GAS (which is not cheap nowadays) but, These are my last three classes to graduate and if they don't settle soon I am going to get S C R E W E D, Royally. And I have to go each day because they said they never know when the teacher may cross the line and come back. It just totally stinks. I went out to the picket line today and expressed my anger to my would be professor. He could have at least left us the list of work to get started on like many other teachers. I can't wait to graduate in December (Hopefully)

as a union member and supporter...i have to tell you this is the exact reaction they want from people...to disrupt things...

if your professor gave you work to do...he would be doing work and therefore crossing the picket line...

SOLIDARITY!!!

Jaime I am sooo sorry. Has the school said if they are making any provisions?

I can't believe they are screwing the students like that. I think it is sad that their top priority is $ instead of the students. I read in the paper that the median salary for professors at Post is $90,000, yet they are b*tching it's not enough.
I would also be ****ed that you are wasting time and $ going to school only to find out class is cancelled, are you getting some kind of tuition reimbursement for this????

Re: I hate my school!!!

wait a minute....

1. by striking...that says the workers are organized...so yes there is a union...you can have unions in private companies...iw airlines, auto manufacturers...etc...

2. this is not a money issue...strinking is usually NOT about a money issue...especially since it means lost wages...

from an AP news article...
negotiations broke down Saturday over issues of workload, health insurance and early retirement incentives

I think those are valid reasons to be upset...people aren't always so materialistic as you may think...

ETA: $90K is not as much as you think...considering most college professors are required to have a doctorate...

FYI: from CWPost website...average salary is $75K thats fromthe mouths of management who want it to seem as high as possible...

Re: I hate my school!!!

As a teacher I fully support their strike and the issues they are striking for. But as a student, working all day and then driving a half and hour to get there to only find out I have no class I am getting annoyed. Most professors on campus have contacted their students to tell them not to bother coming and they have given them assignments to stay ahead with the worked. I am just po'd that my professor is doing nothing to try and help out the students that he knows are working full-time and then driving a half hour to get there and turn right around. It is not my fault that the Administration will not give them what they want.
I understand their whole point is to **** us off so we complain to the administration, but seriously, that is not going to work. There are way too many teachers that are crossing the picket line and teaching their class. There were only about 30 teachers out there actually picketing.

Is it the adjuncts who are striking? If so, they are NOT making anywhere near 75 or 90k.

No, it is only the full-time faculty

boop...I can imagine it must be frustrating....

it saddens me that so many are crossing the picket line...I read that there are 315 members of the union...and only 60 voted...at all...all in favor of the strike...

I guess alot of them crossed now...
