So I cannot stand the taste/smell of buttercream. Its thatstrong butter taste that makes me feel sick (i know its strange lol) So i dont know what i am going to do for my wedding cake. Dortonis told me that they really cant put anything else on it as a layer before putting on the fondant. I dont know how true this is. I had my e-cake from them to test it out and i couldnt eatthe fondant becit hadthe buttercream on it. Ugh im so frustrateddd. anyone else have a similar dislike for buttercream???? what are you doing for your cake??

I am so completely on the opposite page from you. I hate fondant -- I find it to be chewy, tasteless, and disgusting. Kinda like if you picked up a piece of old chewed gum and tried munching on it again... disgusting! But I LOVE LOVE LOVE buttercream!
In any event... why not ask them about their chocolate options? Like maybe they can make the top tier of your whole cake some sort of chocolate / pudding flavor instead of using a buttercream. Also, most good buttercream doesn't actually taste like butter... but find out if they've got a dairy free or vegan alternative (then it couldn't be butter). Even if they can't do the whole cake that way, if they can make one tier of it, I'm sure you'll be able to enjoy it.
DH is lactose intolerant and when we did the cake cutting, I just avoided the buttercream when I fed him. It really wasn't a big deal at all. The rest of the cake wasn't made of it. Since we had a huge extensive VH, there were a thousand other dessert choices anyway.

omg u have to try GOOD fondant. I had gross fondant too from another place and thats bec some people dont know how to make it. Its supposed to have a sweet taste to it.
anyways, I bake as a hobby and am pretty good at it and make buttercream alll the time for family and friends andddddd have had buttercream from different places and hate them all. I cant stand the smell of butter thats the problem. Even when I cook/bake I become sick from the smell.
I told them that I dont like buttercream and wanted to havethem use something else anything else and they said they cant. the girl told me its not going to be a lot for the e-cake but it was still too plenty for me.

FH has told me they can't use whip cream as a base (he's a baker). I think your best bet might be to get a second cake for you made from whipped cream.

Hey Girlie!! Check out Cakes Confidential The concept is based on getting a masterpeice cake at a fraction of the cost by renting it!! Saving you 50-70% of the cost. I saw it at a bridal expo and I was impressed - not sure if i'm doing it yet bc I have yet to see the cake we're getting with our RH but worth checking out. ask them if they can add cream cheese to the buttercream. That will cut the sweetness by alot.

i have the same hatred for buttercream!
i'm having my cake done in whipped cream....
fondant was an upgrade, and since i'm cheap...lol whipped it is!
she said she can get it really smooth, which was my only concern!
