I have a Concern (but it's sad - so don't read if you're going to get sad)

I have a Concern (but it's sad - so don't read if you're going to get sad)

OK - I know this sounds crazy- but I have been thinking a lot about my wedding not taking place because of another terrorist attack. As some of you may know, my FH was at the WTC on Sept 11 in the capacity of a firefighter/paramedic and it was terrifying. The news is always so scary and last night's news talking about possible attacks this summer makes it worse. I am sorry to be so depressing but I need to get this off my chest because I keep thinking about it...

dont' let that keep you from your happiness!
remember that you have no control over what happens...as far as weather or anything goes! if you stop your life though, they win!

it IS a scary world though

Michal, I know you probably fear it more than most people because of your FH's profession, but you deserve better than to let this ruin your wedding, or any other day. Feel free to get it off your chest here, but try not to let it deflate you!

I understand your concern, but try not to think about it too much. I don't know how this is going to sound, and I don't mean for it to come out mean or anything, but the terrorists will win if you are very concerned with what they are doing or planning on doing. That's what they want, us Americans to live in fear. A while back there was also another scare that a terrorist attack might happen, and it didn't. I personally want to live my life day by day and not really want to worry about what terrorists will do. I feel that we will prevent whatever we can and you just have to have faith that what will happen will happen. Try to keep your head up high... remember that this will be your wedding day, the day you will marry your soul mate...

This is a hard one, but you just have to remember that life doesn't stop - not in the face of happiness, and not in the face of tragedy. We MUST GO ON - and we must find joy where we can, and hold on to it, because it's so precious. What's the saying - Dance like there's nobody watching, sing like there's nobody out there - we can't let our fears paralyze us. We are stronger than them.

i know how you feel there were talks of attacks right before my wedding of them trying to blow up the brooklyn bridge and my husband is a police officer in brooklyn and i was so upset i couldnt sleep. but you have to live your life and not worry about what may or may not happen. just live for today and think positive and you will have a beautiful wedding. i cant wait to see your pics you are going to look stunning

Thanks guys - I know what you are all saying is true - and as someone said - I'm sure it's even more so b/c of Jamie's profession.

I think it also has to do with it being very hard to picture your own wedding day and it finally being here!

Thanks!!!

This might sound bad, but as long as you're not getting married in NYC I wouldn't worry about it too much. It might be a false sense of security on my part, but I feel like no one (terrorists) really cares all that much about LI.

I have been nauseous for days feeling the same exact way. Normally when we get the threats since 9/11, I just go about my business and not let it bother me. But with the wedding 2 weeks away, I'm terrified that something will happen to ruin it or stop it. Especially because the day before is the '11th.' My FI and I both work in NYC and live in Queens so we are in the thick of it.

Don't worry too much. I feel like there is so much out of our control.

DH's grandparents didn't even come to our wedding because they were too afraid to come to NY b/c of everything.
I can sympathize with you, my DH is also a firefighter/paramedic, trained in Hazmat and confined space rescue...and I worry about him every day.

You can't let it ruin the joyous and beautiful occasion that is coming up!! it is your wedding, don't let them have that!

I understand that you are concerned but I don't want it to ruin your day. You both deserve a great day and lots of happiness always.

I'm worried about the same thing. My wedding is the day before the Republican National convention and we are leaving on our honeymoon the following Friday. But I figure, there is nothing I can do, so I don't spend too much time worrying. It pops up now and then... but thats it.

As my mom would say to me:

Que serra...serra....what ever will be will be.

We have no control over that, we just have to be cautious and careful. I do think about it, being that I am a summer bride.

Mrswask - I thought the same exact thing when i heard that report on the news, but everything will be fine. Focus on the positive and try not to think about it, you will have ana amazing day

I have had the same fears lately. FH works in NYC and I get nervous every day that he won't come home. He keeps telling me that we can't live in fear and that we have no control over it. Why let it bring us down and ruin the happiness we are feeling right now. I know he is right but it is hard not to think of it. I am making a conscience effort to try and not let it take over my thoughts. Maybe you can try and do the same.

I don't blame you - it's a real concern!

But I don't know what to say to ease your fears other than that if you can place your trust in the CIA and FBI and intelligence forces and the military that they will stop any threat from becoming a reality. I mean we found out about this one (not when but the threat of one) which is better than not (I don't mean to trivialize it). That's gotta be a step in the right direction.

But I even said last night to DH that if he wanted to move to Ireland in the near future, I would be more willing to now than in the past.

Then again, we've been under the fear of an attack since 2001, the media may be making a bigger deal of it than it is. Who knows.

I wouldn't cancel it though for that reason.

You can't let the terrorists win by not enjoying your plans. That is what they want. I too was in the city that day and the one thing I learned about it was to make the most out of each day.
