FH and I are having an E-Party on July 8th. It's a relaxed, laid back backyard bbq type of thing. His mother asked me about our registries and said that since we only have one registry (only because she insisted that we do our fine china so she could buy us a few place settings for our engagement)...there is going to be a problem for our party. Now FH is worried that we are going to wind up with alot of stuff that we don't want. Honestly - I dont want to register yet for othe stuff because we don't have the places to store it. We aren't buying a house until the beginning of next year! What should I do???
Sorry it's long... TIA

Re: I have a question...
I went to a party where the couple did not register. Everyone gave them money. They said afterwards that it was the best thing they did since they needed the money more then the gifts. Plus once you register you should be able to return gifts to the place you registered at without a recipt. Dont worry. I am sure it will all work out.

Re: I have a question...
hmm, tricky... i would THINK that most people (when there is no registry or a limited one) would give money. that is what i would do if i were a guest. i think it depends on the family-- think about your fam and FH's fam. if they seem like the type to give money (you could even ask your mom what she thinks b/c she knows everyone better most likely)... then i wouldn't register.
otherwise, if they don't seem that way-- you might end up with five gravy boats or just random weird stuff that you don't want. it's def a possibility although i hope that it doesn't happen.
maybe register at a place (unless your place already does this) that gives you CASH when you return a registry item.. so there will be some things on there for people who want to buy a 'gift' and then you can just return it for cash.
HTH, good luck-- my e-party is the day after yours!!! i was originally going to go with that date but they didn't have it available at the place i'm having my party!! have fun!!!!

Re: I have a question...
We had the same problem when we had our engagement party. Everyone was pressuring us to register. But I stood firm, and only registered for the Waterford crystal I knew I wanted. I refused to register for stuff, when we had no clue what we wanted. We mostly received money, a few gift cards, and only a few people bought us actual gifts. But everything was really lovely.

Just register for things you know you will need and maybe some fun stuff like photo albums and wedding stuff. Also you could register for a honeymoon.

Re: I have a question...
I AM NOT HAVING A E- pARTY BUT I HAVE ALOT OF CLIENTS ASKING MY BOSS IF I AM REGISTERING NOW. I TOLD MY BOOS NO. BUT GC TO HOME DEPOT OR LOWES WOULD BE AWSOME SINCE WE JUST BOUGHT OUR HOUSE LAST SUMMER AND WE ARE IN THE MIST OF REDOING OUR HOUSE PLUS PLANNING FOR A WEDDING.
I DIDNT KNOW WHAT TO DO EITHER BUT I DECIDED NOT TO REGISTER NOW. WAITING TILL ITS CLOSER TO NEXT SUMMER WHEN MY BRIDAL MAY BE .

Re: I have a question...
Register at BBB for a few items whatever you cant store you can get cash back. The reason I say register there is because if you dont register you'll get a bunch of things you dont want! XOXOXO Kitty

Re: I have a question...
we are having our e-party june 17th and i did not want to register b/c we dont need the stuff for more then a year and i dont really have a place to put it either. But on the other hand, i knew we would have those guests that just refuse to give $ so i registered at macys, and limited my choices to just a handful of things. My idea was, I'd rather get something I registered for, or $ then a crappy toaster that i can't return and now am stuck with. I did not tell my guests i was registered, and those who asked (which meant they were giving a gift anyway) we told. hope it helps! good luck!

We're in the same boat. I only registered for china, formal flatwear and crystal so far. I'm not registering for anything else before our e-party. I figure if people want to get us other gifts, that's fine but most likely people will either buy off the registry or give $.

Re: I have a question...
My FH and I did not register for our engagement party. We pretty much got all money. We aren't going to register until the fall. There is no place to store everything since it was over a year away. I say don't register if you dont' want to. Wait until your ready.

My e-party is the same as yours. I have a different viewpoint. I ended up regestering just because I had an e-party coming up. My mom said that we really should give our guest the option of buying us something or giving us cash, and to not have a registry might be a turn off ,b/c some people might feel we are expecting cash. To date we have already started recieving gifts for our e-party. I will be clearing out a closet and storing all of the items there until we move into our house. Basically you should give people a non-cash option, jmo.

Re: I have a question...
We didn't have a registry for our e-party and the majority of the people gave us money. A few did give us a few peices, but they were things like a Lenox vase or dessert tray, etc. But like I said, about 95% just gave money!
