I posted yes but then I realized you said 'Iraq'.
I don't know. It depends on any information that would have come in at that time. I am not a Bush supporter but I do always wonder if he's acting on information that hasn't been privvy to the public (ie: information gathered from CIA and other operatives). There's alot of stuff that isn't released to the media or public so who knows. Sadaam could have been a major threat to us and gotten rid of all the WMD before the UN went in to find them, for all we know.
So I really think that I don't think that can be decided if we'd still be at war with Iraq or not, if Gore was Prez.

I feel that if he were president, we would have probably still gone to war, but I also think that our troops would probably not be in there anymore. I think he would have pulled them out by now. I just think if Gore were president today, the whole US would be a lot different right now. I think I am just tired of Bush pushing all his beliefs onto the American people and thinking his way is the right way and only way. (ie- gay marriage) Who is he to say what is right or wrong in that respect. I just think the US would be a better place if Gore had become president and I am not even a democrat.

I am not sure if we would be at war, but I am sure that other issues would be handled differently, like the FCC problems, the attempted reversal of roe v. wade, the new amendment of the Brady Bill, and the gay marriage issues. I do not think Gore would have been so quick as to try to make multiple amendments to the Constitution like Bush is willing to do.

We would be at war only if the rest of the world- U.N. included- agreed that it was important to go into Iraq. I don't think Gore would have gone in on his own.
I sadly voted for Bush last time- thank god I've seen the error of my ways

No but it's probably because we'd all still be in a state of utter chaos from September 11th. Plus, other horrific events that probably wouldn't have been thwarted because Gore wouldn't have put nearly as much time, effort and money into homeland defense. Add to that the notion of an Orthodox Jew as VP at this point in the relations with Israel and Palestine and you've just created WWIII.
ETA: and Saddam Hussein and his sons would still be ushering women into rape rooms and murdering their own people.

Yes but I think the UN would have been behind us.

No, but I think we'd be doing a better job in Afghanistan. It's as if Bush totally forgot about Afghanistan altogether!

eogara, your notion about a jew as VP is quite ignorant. Also, it seems as if you've missed the pictures of the abuse of Iraqis in those same 'rape rooms' you so abhor. Looks like you need to update your ideas with some actual information...

I don't think we would be at war in Iraq. I think Gore would not have been obsessed with Saddam like Bush was. We probably would still be at war, but our efforts would be focused more on Afghanistan and finding Bin Laden. I am not sure if Bush remembers who Bin Laden is anymore.
Eogara, I think muslim extremists hate Americans much more than they hate Jewish people. Even if I am wrong, I don't think that we should allow the ignorant hatred of any group cloud our judgment when it comes to electing our representatives. I am not sure if you meant to imply that we should not be electing Jewish people into office, but that is how your last post came across.

On the contrary, as I was an International Relations major with a concentration in Israeli politics, it seems that it would be you that is 'quite ignorant' in your views. As the most influential negotiating superpower between Israel and Palestine, and as the VP's main responsibility is that of foreign affairs, being an Orthodox Jew would likely bias his views. Additionally, regardless of whether he truly could have been unbaised, he never would have been perceived that way. The Roadmap for Peace wouldn't have stood a chance simply because it would have had that name on it and the stigma attached. Look at the facts before you start spouting off emotionally.
As far as the pictures go, it seems to me that you are fairly naive in your notion of what goes on during times of war. While I am not defending their actions, ultimately the most awful part of it was the picture taking. The soldiers involved were idiotic to do so since they obviously would get out. However, I don't think that what actions were in those pictures could possibly compare to RAPE rooms. Do you even understand what that means? I can't imagine you do because you would never compare the two.

Actually, by and large, the main reason Muslim extremists hate America is because of our close relationship with Israel. And I agree with you, of course we should not elect our officials based on what some terrorist group would like better or worse. However, I was simply pointing out that it comes down to more than 'if Gore was president would we be in Iraq' because given the world we live in today as opposed to the world we lived in back in November 2000 during the election, there are more things to consider.
Since I am marrying a Jewish man I think that it's fairly safe to say that I don't discriminate against Jews.

Would we have a war if Gore was President today?
It may be hard to say. On the one hand it has been stated that during the Clinton/Gore administration our country was asleep. The towers were hit then but there was no war. Not that the first attempt and the second can be held in the same light but I don't honestly know what that administration would have done.
I personally do think that the US is in Iraq more so for Bush's own personal agenda than for ending terrrorism. Would Gore have responded differently? Would he have pulled the troops out at this point? Would he have worked with the UN? Who knows....he's not the president and he hasn't been in this situation. We'll never know what anyone else would have done - we'll only know what this administration did do.
