I am 10 weeks and completely miserable.I cannot sleep at night because I cant breathe through my nose and my throat is so sore. Can I take afrin?

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
I am sorry about your cold, but I am not sure what medicines you can take. I've been playing it safe and have not taken any medicines (although, knock on wood, I haven't needed any yet). I suggest calling your doctor and asking.

NovemberSue had a post about this recently. I think her OB said she could take afrin. Do a search for her posts over the last month or so.
You cannot take Afrin( I asked and he said NO afrin), I have a cold and sore throat too and just went to the DR. you can buy OCEAN or AYR saline nasal spray but I have to tell you they work for like ten minutes! Luckily I dont have strep but if you didnt go to your dr., go b/c he said strep is going around and then you need an antiobiotic

OK thank you all! I am now taking amoxicilin but Im so afraid of taking it! I still feel like crap! I cant wait to just breath again.

Feel better.My Ob/GYN always tells me to go to a general practitioner when I am feeling sick to make sure I don't need antibiotics or anything. They will tell you what you can and cannot take. We are very limited as to what medicines we can take when we are pregnant. I think it also makes a difference how far along you are with certain medicines.
