This may sound stupid but I still need to ask it. When you book a vendor do you have to pay up front or do you just leave a deposit? I am trying to budget and didn't know if you have a payment plan with them or not. TIA!

Majority of the time, they require a deposit to hold them for the wedding date and then they will propose a timeline of payments and so forth. Deposits can vary from each vendor. I booked my photographer and left $500. I dont remember if that amount was required. That is as far as I got with vendors.

Yeah generally you start off with a deposit and then they either set up a payment plan for you or tell you 'X amount of money is due by....'.

The photographers we met with wanted deposits ranging from $500-$600, 2/3 one month before the wedding and the balance when we pick up proofs. This is the only vendor we are close to booking so far.

This sounds about right, especially for the photographer. Most of them want the balance when you pick up the final product. Beware of any vendor that wants everything in full before!
