i have a wedding rant...(my first one)

I have a very good guy friend who recently got engaged to this woman who doesn't have a clue. She's a NARS (not a rocket scientist)... anyway, he has been picking my brain about wedding planning and has been complaining that reception places in the city are quoting him 300 a head. He has only been looking in the city... so i suggested to him to look in long island, after all he is Queens born and raised. What was his response? His fiance doesn't want to have a wedding in LI because it is 'wedding central'. Excuse me??? and Manhattan and everywhere else isn't wedding central? The chick isn't even a native new yorker, she's from Pittsburgh for heaven's sake and she's thumbing her nose at long island weddings... she's been to maybe two weddings out here and that's the basis of her conclusion. argh. can't stand her ignorance. do your research b/f you speak. thanks for letting me vent.

BTW i confess that i used to be one of those people who said that i couldn't live anywhere but the city, but after having lived in Chelsea for a few years, i would rather live in LI or the boroughs over the city! Give me a space bigger than 450 sq feet!!!!

I would not be upset with her because she is entitiled to her own opinions and her own taste. My wedding was in Long Island and it was really beautiful while I have friends that do not want to use any facility in Long Island for the same reason as this girl you are talking about. I do not get ticked about it because everyone taste are different.

She is not from NY so She does not know any better LOL How funny will it be if they do find a hall in LI, I hope then you give her a big 'I told you so!'

Well if she can afford $300 + a head then let them book a NYC venue.

It just so happens that the whole metro area is wedding central. NY weddings are the biggest and there is a big market for it here unlike any other place. Whether it be on LI, Westchester, Jersey or Manhattan, it will be the same.

I would think that you would want to go where there is competition so you can have a choice of venues and vendors with varied prices. It also makes me feel better that there are standards in the industry here that you can count on. I've been to some Manhattan weddings at some big hotels and didn't feel like they had their act together.

Ok, I vented for you. She is entitled to her opinion, and let her blow a wad of cash where ever she wants. Her day-her way!

i know a lot of people who didn't want their wedding on LI because they felt the same way. dont take offense - not one person has ever thumbed their nose on a LI wedding - but when you are like my click of friends - and have 6 weddings in 2006 alone - you may get tired of the same places, names, etc. and want to switch it up.

i honestly think that comment 'wedding central' was a comment probably meant to be kept between them and he just spoke w/o thinking. and like someone else said - if they have $300 a plate to spend let them spend it. its not your problem.

It's so funny how people's opinions differ on certain subjects....I just never felt that LI was 'wedding central' - I never heard this.
