I have question about presidential funerals

I have question about presidential funerals

Ok, with Reagan's passing , the news anchors keep saying it is the first State funeral since Johnson, since Nixon didn't have one.

Now, Nixon didn't have one because of the whole Watergate thing. But he was never impeached. He resigned, before the articles of impeachement were signed.

Now, Clinton, was impeached. They had the trial, but he was acquitted & finished his term.

Would he get a state funeral? ( not that I'm rushing him to an early grave)- I was just wondering.

I think he gets one! He was acquited, which means innocent

Each president sets the plans for their burial after they leave office. Nixon did not have a state funeral because he did not have funeral services in D.C. His funeral was held entirely in CA. The family has a strong say in what happens too, after the passing. Jackie Kennedy Onasis is credited with having a lot to do with that.

With Clinton's ego you can bet he's already set the plans in motion for something big and showy.

I heard that they've only done it for like 9 of the presidents, so if that's true I doubt Clinton would be entitled to it.

See that's what I mean. I keep hearing conflicting things.
I hear that Nixon's family didn't want a Washington funeral, & I also hear that the only reason was the scandal.

Is it just a decison made by the current government, and then offered to the family, who can decline?

The Day of Mourning was declared by Bush.
But I don't know who decicdes about the funeral.

good point.
that's weird about setting plans when you leave.
Kinda morbid.
But don't your palns have to be approved? Would Nixon have been able to have a State Funeral if he wanted?
