I have soem questions about photography..i hope you can help me!! ( This is kind of long..sorry)

I am interested in a few photographers and just want to check them all out before I book one. I love Steve from Patken because I saw Jennbaby's pictures AND SHE LOOKED BEAUTIFUL>.her pictures made me like the photographer.. I like Fredericks studio , I like perceptions..I also like twelfth nights web site..I love the pictures, what concerns me is I called twlfth night last night to dicuss packages..he takes the pictures and then gives you the proofs and the negatives..iasked him about 8 x 10's and he said that you do that yourself with the negative. and so I was going to cancel on him because I wnat my album professionally done and he said that exactly what he would do, I can do which is take the negatives to the development place and have it blown up..it just sounds to me like there is something wrong. So I called a photographer and he said that they use special adhesives to keep the pictures in place and a special lacquer etc., while twlefth night says that its not true, they dont put anything special on pictures to preserve them Now I am confused..Im not an idiot, ( although asking this probably makes me sound like one)..if I dodnt like twelfth nights web site so much, I would think he was full of sh!t , but is he telling the truth? Why do we pay photographers so much mone than if its something they can do? Can anyone PLEASE tell me..or give me advice. What got me is he said he could put togther an album for me but it would cost me and why pay that money for something I could do the same myself. It doesnt sound right, right? I think my gut says dont go with him, but I like his pictures. To anyone who responds to this..THANKYOU..I do realize this is long and crazy!

That sounds odd, what he said about not spraying the pics. My understanding is that they do put something on them to help prevent fingerprints and aging. Why would you blow up your own negatives and then bring them back so he can put them in an album?
Try doing a search of his company to see others who used him or mentioned him.
About Frederick, my FH and I loved his pics but we heard some things that turned us off from him, about him not getting crucial shots.
If it sounds fishy, avoid it. You don't need the stress!

WOW!! Yeah, twelfth night said I would put teh album together myself, he said he could do it but it would cost me, menaing he could blow up the photos to 8 x 10's whetever and tehn put them in an album, but he told me I could do the exact same thing he was doing. It does sound odd..thats bad about Fred..I like his web site, but crucial shots are important.. Thankyou for responding!

I think that is not right - all the photographers I visited told me they treat the photographs to prevent fingerprints, spills, etc.

I know I would not book with someone who wanted me to get my pics done elsewhere - It is one thing to get a photo made up elsewhere down the road - but I want professional done photos - that would make me leery - well as the saying often you get what you pay for

Yeah, I think that you guys are right, maybe i just needed to hear someone else say what I deep down already knew. I just really liked his pictures, but i like others as well. Great, thats one less place I have to go to! I want my pictures to last!!

I have a friend (her sister also used them) who used Frederick and loved him. She recommended him to me, but his prices were a little steep!

Ok, you guys have made me nervous now. I'm using Twelfth Night for my photos. All of the photographers I spoke to were giving me proofs and negs only and would do albums beyond that if you wanted, but it was up to you to make the photos (they would help if you wanted). That was 5 different photographers - two of which were what you might call 'celeb photographers' What is wrong with that? Now I'm really nervous!

I have never heard of the bride being responsible for her own prints.... I know that once the proofs come in you will go through the painstaking process of choosing your favourites to be enlarged, but the photographer usually does that. And not treating the pictures is unusual too.

I have to say, I have seen a lot of great work from Patken, especially Steve. Imagine studios produces some great work as well. I have seen the end result of the work from Twelfth Night, but I don't know who did the final product.

Well, luckily you have enough time to seek someone else. Plus remember, it is really important that you are comfortable with your photographer, b/c if you are not it will show in your pictures.
