I have to 'hand cancel' my invitations

I just went to the post office to weigh my inviations and buy the stamps and I asked them if my inviation would fit through the machine and they said no. Its like 1cm off. What a pain! I have a 125 invitations to hand cancel now.

The postoffice hand cancells them for you.
You dont do that

They only help you when they are not busy. That's what they told me. Plus I don't want to take the chance and have my invitations sent back to me.

hand cancel means you stamp the date on the envelope

I hand cancell alot of things and they never told me that they wouldnt or that they were to busy.
The hicksville post office is the main one. Thats where I always take my stuff.
They always do it right in front of me too
They did my wedding ones in front of me with a line out the door..

Yea, hand cancelling things always looks nicer than being run off in a machine

Actually the Great Neck post office said they would help me too. But I was just at one of the main post offices here in the city.

From my understanding you stamp the date on your envelope/package instad of the post office putting it through their machines. Its that big red stamp that's always on your envelopes.

You're actually better off...I know a lot of brides that beg the post office to let them hand cancel the envelopes, because the machines crush the invites...this is especially good if you have ribbons or other decorative things on the invites. It's really not a big deal either, it'll take you just a few minutes to stamp them in the post office!

My invitations were the one thing that i went a little $$$$ crazy so I guess I'mbetter off just cancelling them myself so they don't get ruined.

I wanted to hand cancel my invites. They look so much nicer without the large red stamp across them. Take the time, it took me 15 minutes.

Our post office actually offered to do them for us without asking. I guess that was the ONE good thing about going to the post office at 11pm

OK this is way I am lost, I know nothing about this part of the wedding process,
I am hoping to send my invites out on Monday or Tuesday of next week, and i just figured I would bring to Post Office and that was it, never thought about going thru machine.

Actually I have to bring a sample with me tomorrow to get it weighed to see which stamp to use, I am guessing a .55 cent stamp.

any nice .55 stamps out there, what did you girls use?

any info on this hand canceling or what to do would help, I am totally confused now.

The one in Hicksville suggested it be done by hand also. They did it in front of me. They are very nice there.

Kimberly, if your invites are thin enough to go through the machine without getting shredded or stuck, I wouldn't worry about hand cancelling. I think this is one of those things that guests don't notice.

Make sure you weigh the invite set one more time before sending it off. Thankfully I did. THe first time I went the post office said one weight, then right before the women started hand cancelling them she weight the set for me and I need to add a few more cents to each envelope! Always double and triple check.
