I just did a bad thing...I snooped at my annual review...

on my boss' computer.

My boss left early for Rosh Hashanah and since last year I had such a crappy, warning type review, I was so nervous this year that I had to peak before my actual review.

He said that I have improved a lot and he thinks he can trust me to do more. He gave me a really nice review

I feel guilty though.

I just wanted to find out before we went in his office and closed the door.

I feel happy but guilty.

Help!!!

I went into his documents and I knew what it was saved as.

I feel so horribly guilty about snooping, but also feel relieved that it was a good review.

Then again, who knows what will happen between now and next Wed when we meet

i would probably do the same, lol.

don't know if he is computer savvy, but if he is, i hope it was a recent file that he viewed.

All he has to do is right click on the file and look at the properties and you can get the exact time and date the file was last viewed at.

Doesn't matter if it was on his 'recent' list or not.

I seriously doubt the boss is THIS anal. But why not add a little suspense to the story.

DH said that if my boss was really anal he would have password protected the file and if he didn't, it is his own fault. Anyone could have come in and done it.

I guess we will see what happens. I doubt he will check to see if it was viewed. Why would he?

Password protecting files is usually bad practice. I do not reccomend it at my job because if you lose the password you are screwed. Saving files to a confidential network location compared to their hard drive is the better way to go.

Well, this was not protected or in a confidential folder or anything..

Well, I had to use his computer today, so I reopened some of his recently viewed files to move mine to the bottom and then off the list.

I doubt he will check to see if it was viewed. If he does, I can say that I had gone home by then (it was well after five when I did it)

I guess I just wanted to know if this was going to be a 'pack your things' review and it turned out to be a really good review.

Any suggestions to ease my guilt and cover my tracks?

I wouldn't worry about it, checking to see when your review was last viewed on his computer is probably the last thing on your boss' mind!

tracks are covered, so no need to feel guilty. as mentioned, i would probably do the same.

The review is Wednesday. I wish I hadn't been so curious, but after last year's review, I was so worried. I feel like my work has improved, but last year I didn't expect the review I had gotten either.

I tottaly would have done it if it was a paper file.

With a computer file I would worry about him finding out, but its not like you read SOMEONE ELSE's review!
