I signed up for that do not call telemarkets thing like 2 months ago or more & I STILL get these **** annoying calls EVERY DAY!!!!!!!

Hello??? I am not interested!!!!!!!

Did you sign up before May 15th - cause I think they only add the names like 2 times each year. Once it goes through, and if they call, it could be a serious violation against them (monetary). I think the only ones excluded are companies that you are already associated with (like your credit card companies that call to offer you bonus stuff)...

I did it before May 15 and I had one call but thats it.

I had a company call doing a survey but I hung up on them.

I used to get them every night, without fail. It got to the point where I wouldn't answer the phone. Then I did the Do Not Call Registry and haven't gotten another one since...... ***Knocks on Wood ***

Just so you know...if you are on the do not call list and they call you....report their arses! It is an 11k fine for them.

Jenn there are exceptions to those who cannot call. Charities can call, as can anyone with whom you have done business in the past or who you do business with now. Also they can call you for survey purposes or to advise of something...like they tell you they are sending you some information regarding a product that you might be interested in purchasing. As long as they say they are not trying to sell you something by phone they are allowed to call. YUCK!!!!! So while you may be on the list you will still get calls. Tell them to put you on their do not call list and keep a record of it. That way if they do call back you can threaten to sue them. That should work.

Thanks Wendy, I didnt know that info. I got one call from a survey and hung up on them. But I dont get any more calls of people trying to sell me newspapers or magazins.

I am on the Do not Call list and I still get the telemarketers calling every now and again, I tell them I am on the do not call list and they normally hang up pretty quickly!

Ok, please don't start hurling things at me, but way back when I was a very poor college student, I worked as a telemarketer. ~Please don't hate me. I only lasted a couple of weeks and I hated the job.~ They paid pretty well at the time. Anyway, the point of my story, my supervisor would just take a regular old phone book (white pages) and rip pages out and distribute them. Those were the numbers that we called. People would tell us to take them off of the list. Well, there was no list to take them off of. If you were listed in the phone book, you could be called. I don't know if it is any different now that they have that number to remove you from the list, but this was my experience.

LOL, Helene, Cute story, and thats what I imagined those people do, pick a # at random. I guess its worth the few bucks a month that we're unlisted. and i yell @ dh for wasting money, but we RARELY get these calls. maybe one every 6months. and its newsday or some local suffolk thing.

Hey it was extra spending money for when I studied abroad. They really do pay well. Probably because it's such an awful job and no one wants to do it.

By the way, when FH and I move into our new home, we will be unlisted! We'll see if that works.

Telemarketing firms have come a long way since the ripped phone book age. Most of them use computer programs that auto dial. The program can determine if a person answers or if it's an answering machine. The telemarketer will see some sort of symbol on their computer screen if a person picks up and then they start talking. That is why there is usually a delay when you get a telemarketing call. How do I know? I was a telemarketer for 3 days . I was looking for a second job and thought it was something I could do.....but I couldn't...or didn't want to. Not for me thanks.
