I came home last nite and FH showed me that we got a gift from some close family on his side (they are coming to the wedding).
so here is what I dont get:
1. I dont have a registry, before we sent out the invites we deleted it as we dont need anything and just prefer money obviously
2. this is a $30 gift, something neither me nor FH want, so is this a wedding gift? does this mean they wont give anything at the wedding? not to sound mean but this is a crappy gift better not to give anything and we both just so confused as why they sent it to us
sorry if I sound greedy - that is not my intention, but I am Russian and my ppl always give money for ANY occasion so I guess I am looking for opinions on how to view/handle the situation

i honestly don't know ... it depends on the people who sent it. i'd have FH have his parents investigate and send hints that it's unacceptable
ps: you don't sound greedy ... deep down, we're all hoping for $$$

ETA: Regardless... its still strange considering how close your wedding is...

I'd wait until after the wedding to see if they show up with anything, this might be just because or an engagement gift. Were they able to attend your shower? The only thing that I'm unsure of is should you send a thank you?

an actual gift of something I would never ever use (or FH for that matter who is the main user of house stuff)

haha, you're not greedy. I was shocked with some of the gifts that we recieved before the wedding. You won't know until your wedding if that's the only gift you get--some of them were for us, some surprised us with a monetary gift as well. Try not to let it get to you (although you have a right to be annoyed). I felt bad venting about it too, but when you are spending so much money on a wedding and people KNOW how expensive weddings are...$30 gifts catch you off guard :).

thats what I think that its an engagement gift, but these are close family that saw us since we got engaged a yr ago gazillion of times, so why now with 2 months till the wedding??? I am not having a shower - so maybe she thinks I am and she sent it?

Ahhh I bet that's it. I bet they just wanted to send a gift anyway since you didn't have a shower and since you don't have a registry anymore, they had to pick something at random. Unfortunately I guess they didn't do a great job.
