I just got downsized

I'm still a bit in shock. This came completely out of the blue. I just came back from taking a week off so that I could work on my thesis paper and other schoolwork, and I around 11 I got called into the HR office. Apparently while I was away the Partners of the company went over the budget and decided to cut back on overhead positions, including mine. All the interns were layed, and apparently a bunch of other people who's time can't be billed to the client. I worked as a full-time employee; I was a staff accountant at an Architectural firm and apparently the partners didn't think that my job was important enought to keep around until July, which is went I was going to end my position voluntarily on account of getting married and moving to another state. But no. And right before the holidays too. This just $ucks. At least I got some severance pay, and I already applied for unemployment. I'm sure that the Big Guy in heaven knows what he's doing, but a bit of warning would have been nice. I think I'm just going to take some time for myself until this semester ends, and then look for something part-time. I'm just glad that I have a very understanding Dad (who went thru the same thing last year when I first started my job, which is so ironic, cause he just found a decent job 3 weeks ago. Talk about role reversal) and a wonderful FH (he already offered to help me pay my bills). I'm just wondering how my mother will react (she's in Poland until next tuesday, Dad's going to tell her when he calls today).

sorry to hear that!! but your right, things happen for a reason! did anyone at your job know that you'll be moving after you get married? they may have factored that into their decision.....good luck!!

Things happen for a reason. Your dad has a new job now so things are shaping up. Perhaps you need this time as well. Something better will come your way.

sounds like a bad place to work anyway, if they care so little that they let people go right before the holiday.
