the stamps cost more than the invites

I had mine weighed one day. Was told it was .59 cents. I put on the stamps and then walked into the PO with 2 shoe boxes and said 'i need these hand canceled' and the guy said 'no problem'. He did keep my shoe boxes though

I'd be pissed if they asked me to pay for hand canceling.

You're not paying for the hand canceling only, per se - you're paying for the fact that the invites must fit into a certain 'slot' in order to be cancelled by the machine. My invitations weighed a normal amount, but because of the bow on the front of them, they were just a little too fat to fit into the slot and they would've been ripped if they went through the machine. Therefore, they cost about 20 cents more. That's the explanation I got from my P.O. I paid 80 cents per invite, plus the 42 cents response envelope. UGH!!!!

Try the post office in Wantagh on Wantagh Avenue. We did not have to pay extra for hand-canceling. They just asked us to come first thing in the morning, when they are not too busy so the hand-canceling would not be a problem.

i would but i'm in buffalo there are 2 other post offices here i can check with.... i'll try them tomorrow

I did this last week on Thursday I paid $1.25 per invite and then 42 cents for the response envelopes. But I did not pay for hand canceling in fact the mail lady offered to do it, she was so nice and even chatted with me and asked when the date was and what color my girls were wearing.

Sorry you went through that try another post office.
