The baby weighs in at 8.5 lbs!!! OMG! What am I going to do? I am also 1 centimeter dialated and 70% effaced. I have to have an ultrasound every week from now on to check the fluid. It's in the normal range but on the high side. They're checking the weight again at 39 weeks and if he's much bigger, than I'll have to choose if I want a C-section or not instead of trying to have a vaginal one with a big baby. The doctor said it wouldn't be a bad thing if I went into labor early!!! Let's hope I do! I haven't even told my DH yet... he's going to freak out. AAAAaaaaahhhh!!!

I am glad that you and the baby are healthy Melissa. Try to watch your diet a bit over the next few weeks- I mean, limit the sweets and such.

They said that Damien was going to be 9+lbs, and he was only 8lbs. So those estimates are not always right. Try not to sweat it

How did they find out that the baby weighs in at 8.5 lbs? By an ultrasound?
I spoke with a woman at work and she had mentioned that they predicted that her baby was about 8lbs 2 weeks before she delivered and when the baby was born, she was 6lbs and change. I'm not sure if it's an exact measure, but that must have been a bit shocking to hear that your little one is already 8.5lbs!

I am so shocked!!! I had an ultrasound. They said the most it's off is only by a lb. either way, more or less. I couldn't imagine more!

Melissa, don't worry too much right now. Just hang in there over the next couple of weeks. Usually a baby predicted to be over 9 1/2 lbs (when mom is NOT diabetic) it is recommended mom have csxn. They worry that baby's shoulders are going to get stuck on the way out.
All you can do now is relax, watch what you eat, walk alot (might get labor going early- as might 'relations' if you know what I mean). Keep us posted.

When my cousin was having her 2nd baby, he was estimated to be over 9lbs he was only 7 and when my friend had her baby she was estimated to be over 8 and she was only 6lb 7oz...don't worry (easy for me to say, I'm not the one having the baby )
