I just HATE

Some people sometimes.

I just got off the phone with my FSIL and she made a comment about FH and I, that's making very upset now. I am African American and FH is Italian, in the beginning both of our families had issues with our relationship but they got over it. Today my FSIl mentioned to me that I making my wedding to be more for Caucasian people than for African Americans (Those were not her exact words but I hate to call people my color). What the $$#$# is that suppose to mean, I just hung up the phone on her without saying goodbye

some people just don't know how to be happy for others. you do what makes YOU and your FH happy--regardless of skin color.

Well, she was asking who I hired as my DJ and I told her Dash of Class she was like do they play music for African American people? She also felt that I picked a hall that most AM people would not pick my hall.

And what kind DJ and hall does she think you should use?? Some people are rediculous

sounds to me like she is 1. jealous that you're getting married and all the attention and 2. trying to get a rise out of you.

That's crazy! What does your FH say?

I'll give you the advice that was given to me and that saved my sanity during planning:
Weddings (and funerals) bring out the WORST in people. And jealousy's a b!tch. Keep your ideas, concerns and suggestions to yourself...unless you want to be upset because people will say the absolute dumbest things with regards to your wedding. When someone asks you something like 'so, what are your favors?' they, for the most part don't really care so tell them 'I am not sure, but whatever it is, I want you to see it and experience it as a guest first hand at the wedding - I don't want to spoil the surprise'. Say this about EVERYTHING - believe me it works. Don't share details. Another reason not to share? People steal ideas!

This board is for venting and sharing...don't tell people that you know are looking to gossip...because it will upset you. I'm glad I took this advice, it kept me sane!

this happens to me too - I am Puerto Rican and my FH is Italian - my cousins mostly the younger ones always say things like 'why are you trying to be white? - oh how come you talk white' -

and with the wedding - they even spread rumors that I told the dj not to play rap or hip hop because I am trying to be proper.

whatever the heck that means - I just laugh -

because it always surprises me the the very people that say that people discriminate against them and label them a stereotype are the very people who refuse to leave the stereotype and they love their little box -

well if speaking normal and not in slang means I talk 'white' then so be it.

but it is never about color for me or race - FH is FH and he is not defined by his race.

so let it roll right off of your back and enjoy yourself.

Yup...

Sorry you're going through this. It is rediculous that people can be so caught up in 'colors'.

I would try to limit my contact with her.
