the level of insanity of LI weddings is NUTS!!!!! The amount of money spent & time----I really hope is only a fraction of what is spent on your relationship, marriage, and future!
For those who are lucky enough to get their weddings paid for, good for you, but could you please be a little compasionate to those who pay for themselves. And stop being such NY snobs about it.

Re: I just have to say....
I can sympathis. My FH & I are stuggling over the decission to stick with original plans [wasted $$$$$ never seen again], or change to a simpler, more intimate reception for family and closest of friends. Maybe then we can still have a house, like we dream of having, & not rent forever.
I too have left here feeling upset over others fortunes, and large families and friends for their weddings, but I have my FH reminds me that he does not care whether it's just him and I, we are our future and what counts most.
Hang in there, you do what's right for you! (and keep in mind it's Long Island, there is a wide range of incomes here.

Re: I just have to say....
Wow, I'm sure you feel better now, huh? I don't think ANYONE is a snob, and the only way that you would realize that is if you make peace with what you have. I am NOT having my entire wedding paid for and I work very hard for my money. But, hello, this is a wedding website, why would we come on here and talk about everything else going in our lives? It's called LIWeddings, not LIJobs, LIComplainHere or anything else. So, welcome to you, and congrats on your impending wedding, and I hope you make peace with yourself. Maybe you might want to check out the Newlywed board, the Parenting board, the NWR board, the recipe board, the home board. We talk about all kinds of things on here, not just our weddings.

WOW rachel, (I agree with you, snobs is harsh, but I guess I fall into LIcomplain here too? Screw that, I think people should be able to speak their mind, and I did in my reply.

Re: I just have to say....
Honestly, when I read what I wrote, I definitely should have taken the complain part out because I do all the time! And I definitely welcome all opinions, I'm just saying, I am part of this board and do not feel that I am a snob, or anyone else that I know. I happen to be very lucky that my parents were able to pay for a portion of my wedding, and it was not supposed to be this way. So my whole life I've had it in my head that I was going to pay for my entire wedding. I just got a lucky break when my parents had extra money from selling their house and wanted to give it to me and my sister. I just think it's a shame to let a few bad seeds ruin the impression of the whole board. JMO.

Welcome to LIW! Good luck with your planning! You'll get lots of help, support & ideas here.
For those who are lucky enough to get their weddings paid for, good for you, but could you please be a little compasionate to those who pay for themselves. And stop being such NY snobs about it.
I am not sure where this is coming from but it sounds like something that should be taken up with particular people you feel are not compasionate while sweeping generalizations like this should be kept to a minimum. And name calling is never appropriate.

Re: I just have to say....
MANY of the girls and a few guys on here are paying for their own weddings. I would say a select few are lucky enough to have their parents covering them. Many of the girls have been engaged for a while to save $$ so that they could have the wedding of their dreams!
Yes, this is LI and I agree it can be like the east coast version of LA sometimes so take that into consideration.
I myself, and my FH have been killing ourselves for the past year to save!
No name calling please what's your real name??

Re: I just have to say....
I don't recall anyone on here saying 'Na! Na! my parents are paying for my wedding'. I have never seen anyone be rude at all or snobby bragging about their parents paying. Unless I missed something? So whoever you are, you should check into things before making bold and rude statements!!

Re: I just have to say....
Fi and I are paying for the ENTIRE wedding ourselves...I don't have a problem with anyones parents paying for there's nor have I witnessed any 'snobs' on here making any comments about it.
Hell! I'm jealous of those girls getting cash from someone else!! HOW CAN I DO THAT????
Honestly ladies...I have witnessed A LOT of these nasty messages...do you ever think it's people just looking for a little drama??
It's probably all the MEN that log on now!!!

Re: I just have to say....
i think it is really amusing that people who are saying we are rude are 'newbies', i guess it goes back to people not being able to say what they feel and show their 'faces'. honestly, i feel like, unless you stir the pot yourself and say something rude no one here is ever mean. everyone is supportive and always willing to help. also, i've never seen anyone brag about their parents paying for their wedding, or that their wedding will be better than anyone elses. i agree that people should look before they post!

CAT 100% there is always some drama here.
I too found when I talk about costs, others are also budget conscious

Re: I just have to say....
Yes, some people are in better positions to have more elaborate weddings than others but that is just life. Just because someone may be spending $250 a plate and $6K on her wedding gown doesn't mean she's a snob. She's just got different priorities. Remember that although we may all like to think that our weddings are only about us, some families think differently and view a wedding as a family's social event thus they are willing to spend more.
Relax and look around. You may find some girls are REALLY budget conscious but you would never know it because they have great ideas and style.

Girls - This is a post that should be ignored. There is no reason to explain anything to this person.

Re: I just have to say....
NY Snobs, huh?
You don't know any of us or what our financial situations are...to make a generalization like that only proves ignorance. Rethink your attitude, young lady...(as my mother would say) and think before you speak/type.

Re: I just have to say....
My parents are paying for my wedding, in what way shape or form do you know me well enough to call me a snob? I think that is highly uncalled for. I have never even seen you on these boards. You are obviously someone in disguise changing screen names to voice your jaded opinion. Yes, I am lucky enough to have my wedding paid for, but I never have and never would rub that in anyone's face. FI and I wanted to pay for our wedding but my parents insisted, they are very old fashioned and did it for my sister so choose to do it for me as well.
I give credit to all those women and couples on this board who are paying for their own weddings. I have sympathy for those struggling to do all they can on their wedding day on a fixed income.
Someone like you who voices a stereotype to a generalized public has other issues to deal with besides paying for their own wedding. JMO!

Re: I just have to say....
Who's being a snob? I don't think anyone is holding their noses up at anyone here! In fact, that's the one thing I like about LIW. All of us brides (and grooms) on here that have different financial backgrounds and we are planning their wedding based on that. But I can say that I have not seen ANY posts where someone commented 'oh well that's stupid' or 'that's not good enough for me' in regards to anyone's choices. Nor have I seen anyone flaunting their $$ or choices. What I have seen for the most part are nothing but compliments over pics of centerpieces, dress choices, etc etc.
Granted, you're 100% right - LI weddings are a bit out of control..but don't forget NYC/LI is a very expensive place to live. Does the bridal industry try to make worse? Sure do!! Do some brides go over the top?Again, yes, but that is their choice, and I think we should be respectful of their choices as well as any other choices anyone has made and shown on this board (if that makes any sense).
If you have been offended by anyone on here, perhaps you should address that through a forum mail to that person.

Re: I just have to say....
I don't think anyone is truly a snob over having the support they have from their families to pay for their weddings.....I wish I had the ability to have extravagent things like Tiffany's jewelry, but even $50 a girl is way over my budget. FI and I are paying for a HUGE chunk of our wedding and not planning a year in advance...we gave ourselves 8 months...we didn't want to wait.....I think if anything...I sometimes feel like I'm less fortunate than some of these other girls that have dresses that are close to $1000 or buy Tiffany's for the their girls and that maybe my wedding won't be as great as theirs..... but in the end, all that matters is that we are all marrying our best friends, our true loves.....I don't mind having an afternoon wedding, or in MArch, or a simple wedding, or admitting that I am on a tight budget, I like the advice I get frome everyone...and I'm happy for those that can truly have a fairy tale wedding....maybe even a little jealous....but I have my best friend, and WE'RE GETTING MARRIED! YIPPEE I apologize if I offend anyone, I don't mean to.....I embrace those that are in the same situation as I...BUT MOST IMPORTANT, I LOVE YOU ALL!
