I just need some ideas...

I am not sure if I want the traditional wedding reception. I am toying with the idea of a sitdown dinner
reception for about 40-50 with no DJ, just dinner. I am also toying with the idea of just a cocktail
reception maybe on a Friday night. Has anyone else planned this or ever been
to one of these. One of my friends thinks its cheap, I just want something a little
different. My FH says its my day, do whatever makes me happy. Any suggestions?

Are you talking about a rehearsal or a reception? I am a little confused.

You could DEF do this in a tasteful manner.. so much to play with.. do you have a date? which area would you like to do this? you could really do this up nicely and it would be very cost efficient.. something small, intimate, elegant.. ;)

Maybe a string trio or some other classy option at dinner, to show that you weren't being cheap just wanted something different. A cocktail reception can be ultra classy if done well too. I've been to plenty of charity events that have been cocktail receptions.

i am not sure if money is a consideration - but keep in mind that cocktail receptions can cost as much if not more than a 'regular' reception. the cost of labor is higher and most cocktail hour food requires waiters, but the food is more expensive to make.

just something to think about. i LOVE the idea of a cocktail reception, but the prices we were quoted wasn't worth it.
