I have been here 4 yrs so I get 10 weeks full pay and I can add whatever vacation time I do not use, I have 20 vacation days so I think that comes out to be a little more than 3 mos. I think most people say that is not enoug. The most they give is 12 weeks but that is after 6 yrs of service. I wonder if they count the 2 weeks before as part of the 10 weeks? I also have STD, I guess when the time comes I will have lots of questions for my HR Rep.
What are your company's Maternity policy???

Re: I JUST READ MY FIRM'S MATERNITY POLICY
I'm covered under NYS law as a civil service employee. We can take up to two years WITHOUT pay. I can use sick time, vacation time and comp time but with just coming back from my honeymoon I have a whomping 12 hours saved! Not great. I guess I won't be taking a vacation this year!

Re: I JUST READ MY FIRM'S MATERNITY POLICY
I get 12 weeks. The first two I use accumulated sick time. The following 10 I get 70% pay. Although, I know people that used this and extended their time unpaid. I can't afford to do that.

Shamma I believe the two weeks before are part of your time. That is why I worked up until I had JJ which was two weeks past my due date

That may not be true, actually. If you have STD benefits, and your doctor recommends that you stop working for pregnancy-related reasons, the two weeks PRIOR to the baby's birth would be covered under your STD plan. For me, this time amounted to a full month, and I was given 100% of my pay. The 6 week maternity benefit, vacation time usage and FMLA benefits did not kick in until AFTER the baby was born.

Re: I JUST READ MY FIRM'S MATERNITY POLICY
I work for a really small company, so I don't know what the laws are, but I know it is not much time.
I'm hoping I will not have to worry about going back to, when the time comes.

Not TTC but the company I am temping for I know they dont consider it 'maternity leave' but a leave of absense.

Re: I JUST READ MY FIRM'S MATERNITY POLICY
I believe we only get 12 weeks paid but we can use some accrued sick time/vacation time.
OK - I just asked a recent mother and she said it is 10 weeks paid but by law I think we can stay out up to 3 mos.

Re: I JUST READ MY FIRM'S MATERNITY POLICY
At my firm, short term disability and parental leave are based on years of service. I will be at my firm 8 years in June...so in June I would be entitled to the following: 24 weeks short term disability 6 weeks parental leave
These are total..I would need to spread them out between kids..
I only want 2 so I guess that would be OK.

Re: I JUST READ MY FIRM'S MATERNITY POLICY
Shamma-
When I was preggo with Lukie, the time I was off before his actual birth was not considered part of maternity leave, pay-wise. It was STD and I was paid for that separately. However, according to the woman who handled benefits, it did count towards the time frame where they were required to keep my position intact.
Definitely have them explain they way they do it if you dont understand the way they word it in your company policy guidelines. I wasn't clear on it at all at first but I had a few conversations with HR and it helped alot.
ETA: According to my OB, at 38 weeks you are considered 'full term' and in most situations you don't need special circumstances to be able to stop working.

Re: I JUST READ MY FIRM'S MATERNITY POLICY
The NYS disability is 6 wks (unpaid) and then it depends if your Co. qualifies to follow the Family Medical Leave Act....if it does, you can get 12 wks off total (unpaid) which still doesn't sound like enough!
Most companies have a supplemental plan of paying employees for a portion of this time depending on length of service. I'll only be paid for about half, but I'm just going to be happy with the 12 weeks!

Re: I JUST READ MY FIRM'S MATERNITY POLICY
I get 6-8 weeks, depending on the delivery and what my doc says. But before those benefits kick in, I have a one week waiting period!! I am not telling them I am not coming back, so I can get those 6 weeks of measly pay!

Re: I JUST READ MY FIRM'S MATERNITY POLICY
FMLA covers you for 12 weeks a year. So basically that is the policy that my company uses. I have been out since Dec 18th due to pregnancy induced Hypertension. So basically I have been getting paid for the last 10 weeks and I have two weeks to go. At 17 weeks my company does not hold my position and I get all my bacation paid to me with my 401K etc... Also NYS pays you 6 weeks diablility after the baby is born so make sure that you fill out all your paper work.. if anyone has any ?'s please FM me.. i have done ALOT of research on this

Re: I JUST READ MY FIRM'S MATERNITY POLICY
our policy stinks.
b/c we are a small school, we are not required by law to have FMLA. We do get it BUT it is the bare minimum. We get 6 weeks paid disability (8 wks with c-section) which is so much less than our salary and then we can take an additional 6 weeks unpaid. Thats it!
