I have gone so far to try to work with families on two sides of the country. Eloping and having two receptions, so neither side would be favored. I just got an email that all of the relatives on my mothers side are not coming, because my cousin's graduation party in NYS is the week before! I put my event after theirs, so they would not have to travel the week before their party. Now they are all not coming anyway. GRRRRRRR

Re: I just went bridezilla on my family
Thank you for your support. It helps a lot! I will have a good time no matter what, but my mother who is widowed, will not have a single relative from her side. My late father has a large family on long island, and I think she has always felt out numbered. The relatives live in suburban Boston, they could easily drive to CT and take the ferry! Even if just one person had attended it would have meant a lot to her. Not to mention I changed my date to help them! I never wanted my wedding to be the start of a family smack down.

Re: I just went bridezilla on my family
I am so sorry that is happening to you My best to you and your mom!
I know is hard, but try to look at the positivee side of things....at least you know who you can count on in your family. If they can't make an effort for you (I know they are family) then they are not worth your time. Believe me ' what goes around, comes around'...there will be a time when they will want you to travel to them and is OK if you say no because now you have an excuse.
Are you attending the graduation?

Re: I just went bridezilla on my family
thats def annoying!! IMO a wedding would take priority over a graduation. But thats cus I think graduations are boring!

is there a relative you feel comfortable talking to about this? Maybe explain it would mean a lot to your mom if one or two of them could make it? if they are only in Boston, its a pretty lame excuse to not come. Its only 3 hours!!!!!

Re: I just went bridezilla on my family
I can't imagine going now...it's a party in upstate NY, the graduation is in Boston. My mom had a good idea, invite the neighbors from where I grew up. It's a long haul from suburban DC, but if they could make it, it will give her some support. (She was divorced from my dad, his family is great, but it's always been a bit of a disconnect between my shy southern mom and his big five towns family. However everyone will be nice to her.) I told the relatives I was so sorry it was an inconvenient date , so I will see them at my other reception in San Francisco. Bwahahahahaha! As always, LIw's thanks for your support!!!

Re: I just went bridezilla on my family
My cousin scheduled her wedding for the same weekend that mine is. Hers is Saturday-mine is Sunday. She lives in a different state, so I know my family members will not attend both weddings in one weekend. So, the question is-whose wedding will they attend? I hope they care enough to try to attend both. Purposefully, I did not really count too many of them in; just in case. We will see....
