I kinda got an attitude from my hall!!!!!

I just spoke to my hall to find out when the tasting is, and was talking to the BM who is really nice. But for some reason it seem like she got annoyed that I wasn't really using their house vendors. This may be a stupid question, but do they get some sort of benefit if i book with their house vendors? I dont know she kinda copped an attitude. Oh well. I need to book with what i like and what is within my budget. Has anyone had any problems with not booking their recommended vendors?

It's possible that they get kickbacks, but I'm not really sure. Some of our vendors are recommended vendors and some are not- it hasn't been an issue for us.

I could be wrong, but I think that they get kick backs from the house vendors....I don't think they should have been grumpy with you for not using them though....

They get kickbacks whenever anyone uses them. They have no right to give you an attitude for going with someone else though!

Yikes, that's not nice! I am pretty sure some places get a commission if you use their 'recommended' vendors. Maybe the commission goes straight to the BM and maybe that's why they were snotty? Sorry you got attitude!

Hmmm. Well, I didn't book ANY of the venders from my hall, and they didn't seem to care one way or the other.
I agree that you need to book the people you like. These places deal with hundreds of weddings a year, I would think that they'd be use to people going with other venders by now.
I do know that The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens makes you use their florist. You can't go to an outside florist, but thats rare.

Who is your BM? We have Christina and she's been very helpful as far as the vendors and never said anything about using house vendors. We got the list from her but she said feel free to shop around first.

We used some house vendors and some non-house vendors.

Its Ida. She never gave us a problem so far and was always nice, but when i told her that i was using other vendors she was like 'thats not our house vendor' but a little snotty and disappointed. i dont care really because I still love the North Ritz. Actually the only house vendor i am using is Code Bleu.

That is not very nice. Stand your ground, though, and don't give in. You are the customer, and what you say goes!

I told my hall before i booked that I could not be locked into using their vendors, because most of my vendors would need to be middle of the road in price. they should understand.

thats not very nice I didn't book any of my halls house vendors I went out on my own. I am not even sure if I am going to use the bakery that they are giving us the cake from I might use my own bakery I love the way the cakes are they shouldn't get mad at you for that

I'm using one house vendor and I can't stand them. I'm so happy that my wedding is in a few days and I'll never have to deal with them again!

yeah, they get kickbacks. Ours were really pushing their vendors (we used 3 of them). They didn't get upset, but they were very obviously pushing them.

Ours really didn't push the vendors...their vendors just call 2-3 times a week asking if I have booked ....a DJ, Photographer etc....its really annoying

we have been dealing with Ida too, she has been wonderful so far, the only house vendor we are using is Pedestals, don't let it get to you, they can't tell you who to use!!

they definitely do get a kick-back. I have a friend that is a vendor, I believe it's 10% that she has to give back to her reception hall.

My reception hall send if I use a house vendor they eat for free. An outside vendor is house price. They were fine about it.

As it turns out, the band we are using (9 people) are house vendors- so that saves me money. I look at it as an additional discount off the price of the band.
