I know I have the most ridiculous problems....but UPDATE!

FH & I wanted to go to St. Lucia & my grandfather said to book it & he would pay as our present. I booked it & now he is telling us that it is too expensive & he wants *to book our trip for us* to the Bahamas b/c he has an office there & can get us a great deal & such. Not to sound ungrateful, but I really wanted to go to St. Lucia. FH thinks we should go wherever he is willing to pay, but this is our HM....I don't think we should settle. I am not quite sure what to do, b/c now that FH & I are buying a house I refuse to put that much $$ on a credit card & would rather put $6000 toward the house

I am just so shocked, that I do not know what to do

ETA UPDATE Thank you soooooooo mnuch julybride444. I went to the website & we found accommodations in private villa cottages in St. Lucia for 1/4 of what sandals wanted. It is not all included, but they offer more activities, and NOT ON A SCHEDULE (the only thing I did not liek about Sandals). The rooms are beautiful & they ahve safair jeep tours & sailboating & horseback riding on the beach. I booked it on the spot, I am just waiting for my e-m confirmation! We kept the plane tickets from when we booked sandals & lost our deposit ($400) but I think it is worth it in the long run.

can you pay for a portion of your st. lucia honeymoon and have grandfather pay what he would have paid for bahamas?

alina's idea is perfect. I wouldn't want to settle either... it's your honeymoon! I think he should be willing to compromise in that respect.

We are considering that option, and it is a good idea, but he gets such a great deal in the Bahamas that he is only paying $1000 for everything. It is not really enough

He does a lot o business down there & gets a lot of kick backs from the other businessmen there.

Has anyone been to the Bahamas? I don't even know what to expect.

I agree with the other replies. Pay for 1/2 and let your GF pay the other 1/2.
IF he is unwilling to comprise, maybe check out Sandals in the bahamas???

Why don't you ask your grandfather if he would mind paying for whatever the bahamas trip would have cost and you'll make up the rest?

Did he mention that he would pay only if you went to the Bahamas? Too bad he is only mentioning it to you now. If you changed, would you have to pay a cancellation fee for changing from St. Lucia to Bahamas? I wouldn't change, if that is where you would like to go, then perhaps GF will agree to pay for part of it.

I just talkted to my mom & she said he is out of town in the cayman islands & when he gets back he will discuss it with me.

What really bothers me is that FH & I even worked in an extra weekend into our trip specifically to see him in Fla at the end of our HM. I really wish he would have told me sooner.

If you're going to the Bahamas, I would DEFINITELY stay at Atlantis!! We've been there and loved it. They have so much of everything!! Shopping, casino, restaurants, you name it. It's on Paradise Island, Bahamas.... I stayed another time in Nassau as well, but it wasn't as nice as Atlantis, IMO.

That's where we originally wanted to stay, but GF isbooking the trip for us b/c of his connections. I don't even know where we will stay

Honestly, I wouldn't go on a trip that your grandfather decides to book b/c his standards and style may be different from yours...

I think a good compromise would be for him to contribute to your honeymoon, however much he was going to pay for bahamas, and then have you add another $1,000 or $2,000 or whatever you want for the St. Lucia trip.

Or if he insists that you go to bahamas, then you should have a chance to review the itinerary and hotels before him booking, so that if you don't like it, you can opt for something else, even if its more $$$

Here's my opinion...

It's actually what others have said already. I'd take whatever money your grandfather is willing to pay and pay whatever's left on a HM to St. Lucia. The Bahamas is 3 hours away and it's more convenient to travel to than St. Lucia and can be done more often (hope that makes sense)...

What I mean is this is your HM. You're supposed to go someplace exotic! Someplace you probably will never get to again! Go with St. Lucia, you will not be happy in the Bahamas (even though it is BEAUTIFUL) considering you don't even know where you'll be staying.

OR, hold off and speak with your grandfather and see where you may be staying.

I wouldn't be too happy about him booking it either. How do you know if it is what you want? But then again it could be a really nice place! All you can do is talk to him. Good Luck!

For a really good deal to St. Lucia try www.luxurylink.com. You might be able to get your whole weeks hotel stay in one of the top hotels for under $1000. Then you just have to pay airfare and food/entertainment. This site is run by Traveler magazine and is very reputable. All of the hotels are top hotels. Good luck.

I agree with the others if hes willing to pay 1000 have him contribute. But if your buying a home maybe the Bahamas aint bad- I heard it was beautiful- but only if you GF lets you book on your own-

OK, so I just spoke w/ FH & my mom.....basically, FH does not want to stay at my GF friend's hotel (this is where he wants me to book) b/c he feels a HM is to get away from people we know so that we can celebrate our new life together. We are asking him to give us the $$$... and FIL's are also going to help us out w/$$$$.

Thank you, julybride444, for all the advice & help.... you girls are right, The HM should be special, we can go to the Bahamas anytime.

Thank you for the website, we are checking it out now to see if we can get a better deal.
