Read anything good lately that would be good for the HM? Im not really into romance novels/chick lit or anything too fantasy-y

What have you girls read lately?

I've read Running with Scissors.. very odd and I saw the movie last night and didn't like it, so I don't think I should recoomend that!!

I am reading Saving Fish from Drowning by Amy Tan, it's about an antiques dealer that plans a trip to Burma with a group of her friends and is brutally murdered before the trip.. he friends go without her and then disappear.. it's pretty good.. I am about 300 pages in and I love it..

ANYTHING by Jodi Picoult, My Sister's Keeper, The Pact, Tenth Circle... Amazing.. although I haven't read the Tenth Circle yet, I plan on starting it..

RUnning with scissors was great - Dry was really good too..

currently reading In cold Blood by truman capote - really good!

if you like fictional history - the josephine bonaparte series is amazing - written in journal form so it's a quick read - and you learn stuff too!

the pact was so amazing i read it in one night...i just couldnt put it down. first and last time i ever did that.

i wind up reading a lot of childrens book because i am a teacher. youd be surprised how amazing some of them are. (Crispin by Avi, actually most books by Avi are amazing. Katherine Paterson is also amazing.)

My favorite genre though is historical fiction. Best book I ever read was JOHN ADAMS. Pompeii was also really good. (I am a closet nerd!)

My mom says the same thing! She says that most of the 'Young Adult' books are really great!

I agree- Also, if you like Jodi Picoult- Read 'The Memory Keepers Daughter' (I forget the author at the moment)

Running with Scissors was interesting....as was Augusten Burroughs other books...

She's Come Undone- Wally Lamb

I'll have to look home and see what else I can reccommend

Running with Scissors & the Pact are two of my favorite books. I haven't seen the movie version of Running with Scissors. There was a lifetime movie of The Pact that I didn't like that much.

I'm reading The Mermaid Chair right now & it's pretty good.

I've read The Color of Water, White Oleander, The Time Traveler's Wife & Stolen Lives....all great books.

Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons & the Ya-Ya Sisterhood collection are great fun reads too.

I think the Jodi Piccoult is a bit too heavy fand depressing or a honeymoon. Definately go with something that has a mix of levity or the absurbd!
My vote is for Augusten Burroughs' 'Running with Scissors' or the 'Year of Magical Thinking'

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

Lucky by Alice Sebold - This is actually the author's memoir of when she was raped as a college student. I know it seems very heavy for a HM read, but it's a fantastic book.

If you like historical fiction The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory is wonderful.

The Devil Wears Prada was a great book...as is Bergdorf Blondes.

I also liked The Alchemist and believe it or not The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe was good and White Oleander.

I couldn't get thru the first couple of pages... she was so explicit in her description, I hurt for her... I don't think it's HM material... but JMO.

Don't forget Summer Sisters by Judy Blume! Sooooo good!
