I know this probably happened to many of you....

I know this probably happened to many of you....

I am so frustrated!!! I don't get why people they can invite their own guests to our wedding!!

My FIL's neice came up from Virginia so she could have her triplets here in New York (her inlaws live here too). FH's mom has been so great watching her other kids while her neice was in the hospital before and after the birth of the triplets. So whatever, the neice has been around a lot since the summer.

One day the neice (cousin to Matt) asks Matt if she's invited to the wedding- Matt froze and said yes. Now, mind you, this woman's husband is over in Iraq and won't be back for some time. So we decided to invite her since she's been around a lot. So I sent her an invitation- just to her- no husband, no nothing.

And I get back her RSVP and....

Mrs. X and guest!!! I'm so mad right now!!! Who the heck is she going to bring when her husband is over seas???!?!?! I barely know her or her guest!! Whomever that may be! So freaking mad. And it's not like she needs to have someone with her- she is family- her parents are coming, so she won't be all alone. I am just so furious right now and I had to vent!

Vent over!

I know, can you believe it!

three people did this to me too, and I'm hearing more and more stories from friends who thought they were invited plus guest but 'chose not to bring one' thank God!

if it doesn't say AND GUEST = don't bring one!

I'm sorry to hear that happened. People can be so inconsiderate.

I had similar things happen. We invited a few people who are not married and/or with anyone at all and they decided to add on a guest even though the invitation was addressed only to them. They didn't even ask. The best one...FH's mom's boss who is a rich widow demanded that we invite her chauffeur and his wife!!! We were trying to have a smallish wedding and have 115 people coming. We don't even know these people and they responded that they are both coming too!!

FHs aunt was invited as Ms. X

Call her and tell ehr no. That simple. If her husband is overseas, she comes alone. period. We had to do this because my fathers fam...all single but they each invited FIVE EXTRA PEOPLE so instead of 10 guests we had 50 RSVP! They wrote the name sin in PEN and crossed out the One of one will be coming' part!!!!

The kicker was that most of those were my cousins who got married and didnt invite ME to the wedding! So after getting ma and gettign no help from my dad, I called and simply explained that we'd love them all to come but the invite was specific becaue we had to pay our own wedding and our room was small and already without extra people we were at maximum capaciity-wasnt totally true but it was polite and a good excuse. AND urns out we WERE at mamximun capacity day of because they misquoted how many peopel the hall could hold in that room!

Stick to your guns. It stinks, but if you let it go, more will come...believe me. YOU areNOT tacky for telling her no. SHE is tacky for inviting someone instead of coming alone.

Re: I know this probably happened to many of you....

Thanks girls...here is the update

FMIL spoke to her yesterday and apparently she put the response card back in the mail after FMIL had already told her she couldn't bring her daughter. I think the neice/cousin is okay with it- FMIL asked if she could be at her table since she doesn't know too many people.
