I was given a gorgeous centerpiece from a wedding and after a week I put the surviving flowers and greenery in a vase. As each died, I kept transfering them to smaller vases. After three weeks, the pretty green and white ivy are still thriving and now have roots. I would love to give the bride the ivy when I visit her new home for the first time. Anything pretty I could do with it? I would truly appreciate any ideas.

Re: I know you all have great ideas...
Why not pot it into a pretty plant that will blossom & grow and she can look at it everyday

can ivy grow with anything, or does it kill other plants? Perhaps you can plant seeds along with ivy, but if not that, what about a pretty pot to match their windowsil?

I am very uncreative, but I just wanted to let you know that you are a wonderful and thoughtful mother, and your daughter is so lucky to have you!

Since ivy is a climbing plant, they can be shaped as they grow. You could stick a wire hanger into the pot, and shape it into a heart shape, and wind the ivy around it. As it grows it will continue to wind around the heart shape and get prettier as it gets fuller!

I like Lunatrek's idea. Also, you can look on a gardening website for suggested companion plants for ivy. Maybe you can make a pot for her.

I would plant it in a pot and tie a ribbon around it the color of their wedding party. That is so sweet of you to do this.

I have my ivy in a wine bottle filled with water (it lives in water). Maybe you can put it in a bottle with their names, weddings date, pictures on it and tie it with a ribbon of her colors

Re: I know you all have great ideas...
Thank you all. You girls are so incredibly sweet.
Years ago someone told me they did something similar and a ROSE developed roots. It became a climbing vine. Now that made a great gift to the bride.
Lunatrek's idea is close to what I had in mind. I guess I should have been more specific. I did try a wire hanger in a circle once for myself and couldn't get it right. Without a third leg to create a tripod effect, it wasn't stable enough. Maybe I did something wrong.
I love the heart idea and will experiment with it further. I also was thinking about a topiary. Too boring to just create a ball on a stick?
If you think of anything along those lines, please let me know. No doubt I have plenty of time til the vines grow into anything workable.

What a wonderful idea and gesture! She is going to love it!
I'm not sure how to accomplish what you're trying to do, but have you called a florist? Maybe you can tell them you have the ivy and want to know how to get it to grow around the ivy? Most people will help you there, over the phone etc.... Or, maybe e-mail is the ? section of a Better Homes website? Martha Stewart? Just brain-storming of how to find out from the experts. Good luck!
