this morning before I left for work (7:30am) I wont be out of here until 5p today. Is that too long for it to sit out? I dont want it to spoil. The steak is pretty thick and big. Not sure of the weight. Its a top round. I could run home on lunch and put it in the fridge. Is it necessary?

It should be fine..
when I make thin breaded steaks (which is alot of meat) I take it out in the morning and its fine for me when I get home.. The draft from the kitchen window kinda eleimates the heat in the house so it doesn't defrost as fast as you would think. Hope that helped =/

I would run home and put it in the fridge. My mom usually takes stuff out ot around that time and has me put it in the fridge around 2-3ish bc its fully defrosted by then and u never know with meats.

Yeah, If my kitchen wasnt so warm I wouldnt worry so much. (the heat pumps in my apt). I guess I'll just run home on lunch. I dont wanna take any chances. This is my first time leaving one out for that long.

I always leave out too.......if you put in fridge it doesn't always defrost by end of day. IMO

according to fh (who does all the cooking and has been working in the food industry for years) if your apt gets really hot then go home and put in the fridge better safe then sorry.

It should be fine, I do the same thing usually and I leave the house at 7:30a and get home around 5:30p.

iIdo that all the time, your fine... You won't get sick. Actually my butcher said it was fine too. I asked him awhile back because I do this all the time.

I usually take the meat out of the fridge in the morning before I leave (around 8 am) and leave it on the counter until I get home at 5:30. I have never had a problem.

Thanks girls! I think think I'm going to chance it instead of going home now. I sent FH the thread and he's laughing now because basically half of you say its ok and the other half think not.
I told him that if anything whatever bacteria will burn off while it cooks! I think?
