i love living on the first floor......

just a **hint** of sarcasm there!!

I dont' know what they're doing upstairs from me, but it is incredible the amount of noise they can create!!! it's an old woman in her 60's, her 30ish year old daughter, and a 5 year old little girl....what could they possibly be doing?????

I can probably beat all of you....

Upstairs - I swear they re-arrange furniture every night. The nights they are too tired to do that, they drop a million and one things.

Right hand neighbor - blasts his radio until 10.00 at night.

Across the hall neighbor - slams doors and talks loudly in the hall at all hours - crazy personal conversations. Has yelling screaming matches with his now ex-gf.

Down the hall neighbor - yells at the other two neighbors and slams doors. Also told his downstairs neighbor that it was us making noise and not him that she was complaining about.

Downstairs neighbor - I affectionately call them Mr. & Mrs. CrankyPants because the complain about everyone and everything. THey even tried getting our state assembly or congress person to intervene so they can renovate their apt. All they need to do is submit their plans to the board & mgmt company for approval.

I lived on the first floor for YEARS and I also live across from a bar. Needless to say on more than one occasion I had loud drunk people in front of my window (and once, I opened my front door just in time to see a teenage girl hurl not five feet from me. Joy.) I love being in the penthouse now (well, the fourth floor, and a walk-up, but it's still better.)

Christine it sounds like you live in my old apartment!!!

We returned home to find that they moved a family of 4/5 depending on the time of the year into the 1 bedroom apartment above us. Then the guy next to us on the left had a surround sound hooked up to our common wall then on the other side was a family of 3/4 in a one bedroom and they moved their big screen tv against my bedroom wall

Then there was the man in my parking lot with a 'gun' that time. Oh the fun times I remember.

OK I am happy to have my house!!!

ETA: Lori, White Zombie More human than Human or most Metalicca songs worked on shutting my neighbors up. Did I mention DH's speaker were the 4ft kind

the thing is - they're fairly nice people...it just sounds like they're moving in still....and they've been moved in for at least a month now.
the older woman once said something about her granddaughter having a trampoline up there though....i thought she was kidding, but now i wonder......

Re: i love living on the first floor......

Last year when I lived in a co-op, the guy next door to me owned a stereo company. Well, he didn't get home until the wee hours of the morning, and would BLAST broadway songs. My pictures would fall off the walls and we would knock on the door and call them, but they couldn't hear us Finally, I sent my dad over to scare the fear of god into him, and I slept well ever since

Re: i love living on the first floor......

maybe those three foot wide trampolines, i have one of those.......
maybe you can ask them to put a carpet under it to absorb some sound??????

Re: i love living on the first floor......

they'er supposed to have carpeting, per the rules of the co-op board.....especially for the 2nd floor. and they're supposed to have a certain padding underneath it too....but somehow, i doubt they do!

and i feel badly complaining to them, because the grandmother is supposed to be the only one living their...but her daughter has some medical condition and has to keep going back to the hospital, and her husband couldnt' take it, so they're separated, so that's why she's living there now with her daughter.

Maybe next time you see her maybe you can mention something in passing.

Like was everything ok last night? I was hearing all of these large thuds and it sound like someone fell and got hurt.

I don't know something like that

It sounds like some of you live in the same apt as me!!! Our upstairs neighbors have gymnastics tournaments every night, furniture moving contests, bowling parties, etc. I could go on and on. Did I mention that they vacuum 24 hours a day and have no carpets at all?

We used to live in a 2 family house in East Quogue. Above us were a husband and wife and little boy who LOVED to run from room to room non stop. He would start at 5AM and not quit. Im sooo glad we moved into our own house and there is no one above us!

I'm getting nervous now too. We're moving into a basement apt next weekend. Chin up. It takes some peopleawhile to settle in, then hopefully it'll get quieter.

Re: i love living on the first floor......

Last night the guy below us came up to ask what we were doing - his entire kitchen was shaking. It was just the washer on spin cycle, but it's terrible. OUr entire kitchen shakes too!!

Actually my best ever apartment story was when I was living on the upper east side. For some reason my key wouldn't turn in the lock. It was about 11pm and I tried knocking on the door so my roommate would open up, but no answer. I couldn't imagine she would be out that late during the week, so I started banging on the door. Still no answer. WEnt downstairs to call upstairs from the pay phone, still no answer. I go back upstairs to try the lock again and the couple who lived next door came home, VERY tipsy!! They proceeded to have extremely loud sex - it sounded like up against their front door!!! Very hard to hold your ears and try to turn your key in your lock at the same time. Finally I went to my cousin's apt, she lived a couple of blocks away. She let me in and then called my apartment and SCREAMED into the answering machine. Roommate finally answered the phone - but now I'm scarred for live!!!

Re: i love living on the first floor......

Before we got married, DH rented the upstairs of our house (he lived in the downstairs apartment) out to a single mom of 2 teenage daughters(15 and 12. The 12 year old had some emotional problems). Well the mom and the girls wore these big a$$ shoes all the time. They looked like Herman Munster shoes!! The younger of the 2 girls constantly ran thru the house. The mom was always yelling at the kids too! She would vacuum the tile kitchen floor in the middle of the night (DH's bedroom was beneth the upstairs kitchen) She would go out and stay out all night and leave the kids home. She would put her shoes in the dryer and all we would hear downstairs was banging. And to make matters worse when her lease was up she would not move out!! She was supposed to be out by the end of August and didnt move til early JANUARY!!! The noise got worse from August to January. We got married November so for 2 months I still lived at my mom's house (DH had a roommate and I didn't want to live there with him.)

I could go on and on...
