Hi everyone! I've just joined the site today after getting engaged on 12/23 and am so grateful to have found a local community for this! Have only just started doing some research and brainstorming but have already found a lot of helpful information here.
Biggest worry at the moment is finding a venue that's right for us and fits a tight budget - we arent having a religious ceremony and don't want to have the typical catering hall/dance party wedding, so we're looking for smaller/more casual venues where we can have both the ceremony and the reception. Would love to hear any suggestions that you lovely people might have :)
Also a little unsure about timing; we're looking at either mid-late March or early-mid October 2016, and I'm not sure if I should be concerned about booking a place quickly if we decide to shoot for March.
I'm trying hard not to stress about any of it yet - we still have to buy my engagement ring, so I want to enjoy that process before worrying too much about the wedding itself!
Looking forward to chatting with all of you as we plan for the big day :)

I'm new and newly engaged!
Hi! I'm sort of in the same boat as you, want a small bon-religious wedding. I just started planning my wedding and am going on January 17 to see my first three venues. The venues are fox hollow (the have a beautiful winter garden room for small weddings), the swan club, and the carriage house at millridge inn. I also have an appointment to see the water mill. I can send you more information/quotes after my meetings if you are interested in any of this venues. As an FYI - it is not too early to start looking for next year. I am just finding out now, by making these appointments, that Saturday nights are getting booked fast for 2016 already!

Can you send me the quote? I would like to get a general idea of price for October before my visit.

When I was looking I wasn't searching for a ballroom wedding. I wanted something different for 120-130 guests that I could have my ceremony at. I was suggested to look at The Riviera and loved it! Sending you FM now with their prices!

Congrats! I was looking for something similar and would reccommend looking into some of the Lessing venues. We are using the Mansion at West Sayville for reception, we also went to Three Village Inn, Smithtown Landing, and the Riveria. I don't know your budget but The Woodlands, and the Old Field Club are two places that also don't have that catering hall feel but we're slightly out of our price range.

Congratulations on your Engagement!! I booked the Milleridge for January 2016. I love it and they give you a great price for everything that you get! If you are looking for January or February for 2016 I can give you quotes for Milleridge, Old Field Club, Riveria, Westbury Garden, Foxhollow, Three VIllage Inn, Stonebridge, & Sayville Mansion. I found that January and February was saving us thousands of dollars because it is off season.. Also am seeing with the vendors its cheaper too because of the offseason. Things to think about. Happy planning :)

Any quotes you would be willing to share would be a huge help! After talking/thinking about it some more we're starting to seriously consider November as opposed to October, based on what everyone's told me so far about off-season pricing; I'd also look into early march, but I feel like any earlier than that would start being too little time to plan without feeling super-rushed and stressed. Besides, we are definitely fall people, and I love the idea of possibly getting to take photos outdoors with the changing leaves!

If you want something a bit different, try looking at Insignia - it's a steak and sushi house but they look like they set it up really nicely for weddings too.
