I mailed out my INVITATIONS tonight!!! Here they are:

Original post by bethsiar

Ok so it didn't go as well as I planned. I was starving when I got off the train, its snowing so it was hard to find the post office and FI picked me up equally as hungry.

The post office worker wouldn't let me hand cancel them Regulations. After we stamped them all, we gave them to him, he put them in a box and said Ok I'll do this later. I was a little nervous b/c obsessive bride that I am, I wasn't thrilled with FI's sealing job, but I can't complain. He got out of bed early to do it.
Oh and Excuse the cheesy 70's tablecloth. As much as I would love to get rid of it, my Mom doesn't see whats wrong with big green flowers

This girl moved so I can use her invite as an example:

Love them!!! They're gorgeous! I wish my calligraphy had come out that good....

eogara - Hand cancel is using a hand stamp instead of running the envelope through a machine to mark it with the date and city of the post office. (You know that stamp you see when you get a letter in the mail that is over the postage stamp?)
The machine can mangle your envelope and hand cancelling looks neater.
I went to my post office and just borrowed their stamper and stood off to the side and stamped all my envelopes.

YAY!

Thanks everyone for your wonderful compliments!!! I wouldn't change a single part about them.

NYCHICK- its not a strange question, actually me being the freak I am, I bought the tissue paper from Ebay, wrapwithus or something close to that, and cut it into little squares and threw out the white tissue paper. I am so happy I did it because I thought the white was so flimsy and I think the the new paper gives it a little nicer of a look.

All the other paper I bought at Crane's Store in Rockefellar Center, except for the outside envelope, I got that at Pick Quick on clearance.

Don't be fooled by hand canceling. Envelopes still need to be sorted and the zip code needs to be printed across the bottom.

Your invitations WILL go through machines even if you hand cancel. They just won't go through the machine at YOUR post office where you mail them.

BETH,

Beautiful invitations. I never knew your name was Bethany.Very pretty! LOVE the tissue paper!

So, is it worth hand cancelling? If its not going to make a differnce I'd rather just dump them all off.
