So yesterday I was supposed to take FH & FMIL to see the Metropolitan and them\n to see Chateau La Mer again since she was complaining she's been left out of seeing the hall ( cause my mom had went with us). So our appt was 11:30 at Metropolitan, I get to her house in Carle Place at 11am to find out she's not feeling well (and didn't have the common sense to call us & tell us not to bother picking her up?) Whatever.. it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
We went to The Metropolitan and it really looked nothing like the website LMAO. There is a picture on the website that shows a tent with tables by the water... this place is nowhere near the water. I won't go any further on what I thought since their might be other brides on here who liked it or got/getting married there.
So I called CLM and cancelled my appt. No sense in going back since she wasn't coming to see it.
Now ever since I first got enaged last year, I had bought that NY Reception magazine/book I know we all probably have. I had always seen the page for Windows on the Lake and was just WOW'd by it. But it's in Lake Ronkonkoma... 40 minute drive. I've avoided going there.
Well after Metropolitan yesterday I told FH to 411 their number and call them to see if we can stop in. We had no other plans for the day so why not? Well we went there and met with BM Frank who was just great. He even gave us a mini tasting ot the pasta dish they were serving at a fund raiser that was going on in their ballroom. Delicious.
I really think I fell in love with this place. They even had one of those complete wedding packages.
But I think the part that really sold me was the ceremony site right on the lake. Beautiful. It made me want an afternoon wedding on the lake.
Going to call back to schedule an official food tasting, they said they wouldn't let me book before doing that, LOL. And the BM gave me his cell # incase I can't reach him when I call the hall.
Finally after seeing 17 halls..... FH & I are just excited and think that this might be it.

That's great! It's so much fun when you both find the hall that fits the both of you so well. My friend got married there a number of years ago and the food was excellent!

Re: I must be crazy...
After just reading a few of the brides reviews on Windows I'm a little nervous about it now.... sounds like some of them didn't get the service they were told they would be getting and that the BM's weren't the nicest people once they got their deposit from you...
Well I got time to think. The only other hall in consideration at the moment is CLM.
We plan on seeing The Riveria, but everytime I call I have to leave a message and no one gets back to me... frustrating. Thought they'd want business. I call Saturday & Sunday.. here I am Monday without a call back.

Did you go to jericho Terrace? My sister got mrarried there and was really, really pleased with the service. I went in and spoke with someone and they were very helpful...but I didnt want to get married the same place she did.

The only reason I have not gone to them is cause I litterally live 5 minutes from there and I want to go somewhere different not too close to my home... I pass by it so often so I just don't know how to describe how I feel about it other than saying I don't want a place in my backyard lol.

makes complete sense! what about thatched cottage? I havent been there...but my friend's brother got married there and said it was beautiful. I also hear the prices are reasonable. An afternoon wedding might be perfect there as they supposedly have beautiful grounds.

That's one of the few places I have not been to yet but have on my agenda. i still want to go there, The Riveria, NRC and I wanted to see the Verdi's in Whitestone. It's be nice if anyone from the Riveria calls me back though... I plan on putting another call in to them today on my lunch break.
I also sort of prefer water front but I'm not fulyl set on that.

Re: I must be crazy...
I would take the reviews with a grain of salt. LIW is just a small handful of the amount of people that actually get married on Long Island.

I know but it seemed like all the reviews on here didn't bring me much comfort because they all had a number of complaints about the staff, one girl was told she could come at 5 for pictures since there was no other wedding and when she called the day before she was told that wasn't so & was never told she could do that.... But I don't know.
I still have a few places I want to check out. I feel if I don't see everything I orginally wanted to look at I might miss out on something and there will always be that 'what if' factor.
I'm hard to please when it comes to the hall

Re: I must be crazy...
08'er crashing. I just got married there in July. Let me know if you have any questions. We took their package. You cant beat the price. Everyone there was wonderful.
They were about 40 mintues from us too but I didnt care, we loved the place and the food-omg!! Well the day of I cared b/c we were very late stuck in traffic
Honestly, from reviews on here I thought i'd run into alot of problems with them. I was wrong, they were exceptional the day of. Other vendors not so much.
I am still getting compliments about our wedding.
Good luck!!

I'm glad to hear that! Makes me feel a little better after seeing the other reviews, most of them seemed so negative!

Re: I must be crazy...
Sometimes it takes 17 RHs to find the one- I know this from experience. But when you find the one and you just know it, then book!
I wouldnt worry too much about reviews. After all, how many people get married there a year? How many people actually post a review of the place on LIW? VERY FEW!! Reviews do help- but its such a small percentage of people that actually get married there and post a review- they couldve had a bad day.
