Here are my invitations!! Check out the calligraphy. I am in love. Pictures
I had a really hard time picking invites. I wanted something different. But everything ended up looking gimmicky or was of cheap quality. Basically, I realized that I wanted the invite to reflect this elegant party. I ended up going to a well known, but small invite company in NYC. The name is Mrs. John L. Strong. They sell it at their own office and at Barney's. They only do engraved invites. It is really simple. The thickness of the invite is about 4 times thicker than a regular thick invite. It is actually thicker than cardboard. The edge is painted gold. The envelope liner is blackish gold.
The invite is so simple, but we went crazy with this super fancy calligraphy. The guy, Michael Sull, is known for this special kind of writing. He is actually in Kansas. So we had to ship everything down.

The calligraphy is so beautiful! I'm jealous. We're just doing ours ourselves on the printer.
Be really careful. My sister did my shower invitation envelopes this way. When everyone got them (those that did), the writing was terribly smeared. Since the envelopes were thick, the printer did not have a chance to heat the ink, a process which makes the ink stay on the paper. We learned this afterward. I would do a test one first. Put it through the mail and make sure it comes back fine.
