Marriott Marquis at Times Sq. is awesome. Rooms are great and they have a lot going on inside and outside the hotel.

The W is great too... any of their locations.

Happy Birthday!

I am totally NOT a NYC kind of girl...just ask Janice and Barb, anyway...my lil sis used to work for the Screen Actors Guild and during contract negotiations they put her up at the Weston...which I think is just W for short. She raved about the place. check themout...btw...happy b'day!

Re: I NEED A GOOD HOTEL IN NYC

You want to have a birthday party at a hotel? if so just know that just about every hotel has a no party policy, you can have about 15-20 ppl the most and get away with it but once you go over that they won't allow it. However, its funny that if you do have a party, they will only allow it if you do catering through them only and most places charge about $70 per person per hour.

For Dh's 30th surprise party, I originally wanted to have the party in a suite or penthouse in a hotel in the city. For a month I called just about every single hotel in the city, and they all said no party or they said if i wanted to do it and do catering through them then that is fine(some wouldnt even allow it if they did the catering) and many sent me their packages and that type of info.

There was one hotel that did allow it and were cool about it and I was able to bring my own stuff if i wanted. It was a 2 floor penthouse, it's all black and white gothic type style room, its real nice but when i went to see it, it was too small for the amount of ppl i was having. If its hot out its not bad bc they have a very big terrace so you can have alot of ppl on the terrace, but i had the party in february so didnt have that option. Their price wasnt bad either, depends who you get on the phone though. I was quoted $1500 then when i called back the sales department told me $3k and i said i was already quoted $1500 and the lady said ok well if you were already quoted that then i guess i have to give it to you for that. It was the Night Hotel, its right by times square area.

For my friends bachelorette party we booked a suite at the Flatotel and it was awesome. There were about 15 of us so we got away with it. The suite had 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, it was huge. The living room had very high ceilings, very big space and had a wrap around terrace, there was even a kitchen. If you ever watched modelville, thats the same suite they stay in. The price isnt bad either. Its $1460 about.

Another hotel that allows a party is the Rivington hotel, it has an insane penthouse that is huge but they charge $7500.

Another hotel you can do it at if you dont have alot of ppl is 60 Thompson. Dh's friends gf threw her bf a party and booked their loft. Again there were about 15 of us so it was fine. The loft was great, it was 2 floors, very high ceilings, 2 terraces, the top one is huge and it was in the summer so we were out there most of the night. They also have a real nice rooftop bar you can hang out at.

I had 60 ppl at Dh's party so thats why i couldnt do it and not like i was able to just book it and get away with it. The catering wasnt worth it to me bc they were charging $34 per person for just 4 hors dourves, and $36-40+ for bar per person per hour, with most hotels wouldve cost me $200 per person for bar and 4 hors dourves and that is on top of the fee for the room. Plus i didnt want this formal party, i wanted a more party atmosphere.

or is this for just you and your FH to stay at, just you two?

If so i still recommend the night hotel, flatotel, 60 thompson, rivington, soho grand, W hotel, Sofitel.

My favorite hotels in the city are The Plaza, the Waldorf=Astoria, the Ritz-Carlton (on Central Park), the Four Seasons, the Mandarin Oriental, St. Regis, the Trump International, the New York Palace, and hmmm... can't think of any others I've stayed at. But all of them are fantastic and almost all of them have wonnnnderful restaurants. (The New York Palace has the restaurant 'Gilt' in it and it is phenomenal. Gilt Restaurant . Jean-Georges at the Trump is also amazinggggg but doesn't have the young/chic feel that Gilt has.)

I would recommend the Marriot Marquis, the Hilton on 6th ave, the Millenium, the Westin (W). Those are the one that are most known.

Here are some others that I think are nice too:

The Sofitel (beautiful hotel I think it is on 44th street between 6th and 5th ave.
The Muse Hotel (small hotel, but very nice on 46th street between 6th and 7th ave)

You also have the Residence Inn by Marriot on 6th ave, Doubletree in Times Square, which are not as fancy, but they are not far from where all the action is.

On our engagement night, we stayed at the London Hotel by Central Park. It was reasonably priced compared to other NYC hotels, they have huge rooms that I think are actually all suites, and great views of the park! I would definitely recommend it!

The Westin is different than the W...but they are all Starwood Hotels...so you get the same service etc : )

My favorite is The W in Union Square. There are several W's in NYC...but this one is the nicest in my opinion. Others I think are great and fun if you are just looking for a nice night in the city...Westin, Le Parker Meridien, Gansevoort. Mandarin Oriental

I def think that the W in union square is nice. I stayed there once and I really liked it. Are you having a party or just staying there?

do you want more fancy or very modern?

I really loved the decor at Night hotel, you can go to the site to check it out, its very different and cool.

But depends on what you're looking for, also do you want a regular room or a loft, suite?

Maybe also something to consider is a hotel that has a nightlife of some sort. Gansevoort would be good then bc they have a real good rooftop bar that is very popular. 60 thompson has a real nice rooftop bar, with tables and couches, its mostly just for those staying at the hotel but sometimes they'll let others up. W hotel most have bars and clubs.

I love the Waldorf Astoria. It's normally very expensive, but they usually drop in price to about 220 a night. You can book it and get a price adjustment should it go down. My FH and I have always been lucky and got the room at a more reasonable rate from when we booked it.

W is always a good bet cuz their bars are fun too.

one other suggestion....hotels in jersey city are really nice and have the view of the NYC skyline. last year FH and I stayed at teh hyatt in jersey city and it was great. rooms were big, view was pretty and service was great!! FH bought me ice wine, so we went downstairs to the lounge to see what desserts they had...and they offered to open our bottle for us and let us sit there and enjoy. which is a surprise, cuz normally they would charge a corking fee or tell you no outside liquor!
