I need advice on honoring someone special at my wedding
My brother is a Marine and is currently serving his second tour in Iraq. He will not be home for my wedding. I am trying to think of a way that I can honor him at my wedding. I was thinking of doing a donation favor in his honor, but I feel like people will be upset that I didn't give an actual favor. Can any of you think of another idea?
Thanks.

that's such a great idea.....what about lighting a candle for him at the ceremony? in his honor.

A donation favor is a WONDERFUL idea. We are doing one as well.
Trust me, no one will be upset that they aren't going home with something at all.
If you're really worried, you could do an edible favor (chocolate lolipops, e.g.) and a donation...
I think it's a really, really awesome idea.
Prayers for your brother, too!

Exactly what I would have said...I've been to a million weddings where I can't tell you what the favor was and only one that had a donation (which was to honor the brides father who passed away from heart problems) and everyone at the table was VERY happy with that....

I think the donation is a wonderful idea, that's what we did. I did not hear once that people would've preferred a favor, I only heard what a great idea they thought it was. There are so many great related donations you could make. I would def go for it!

We did a donation favor and received many compliments from our guests on what a nice touch it was to honor someone close.
ETA: Frankly, if someone is coming to a wedding to get a favor (or they get upset b/c they didn't get one) they need to seriously get a clue about the meaning of a wedding.
