I would like to do my own menu. Because I am not paying $100.00 for menu. So my problem is,
I don't know where to begin. I want to put one on each plate per person.

Are you doing one per person? I don't know if I just get cardstock paper to print them on, or get text paper and then card stock paper. I am so scared of the cutting part.

Re: I need DIY help
honestly the EASIEST way to do this is to use a regular 8 1/2 by 11 VERTICALLY in half..... type up the menus side by side.... you only need to make one cut straight down the middle.... get a paper cutter and cut it at 4.25inches simple and easy.... staples even has a paper cutter with different functions... one of them is a corner rounder... you can use it to round the corners also!!.... if you need any other help let me know...
like i said this is the EASIEST... if you wanna do something a little fancier.... let me know

The cutting and folding (since we opted for folded menus) was absolutely the hardest part. I used a bone knife from Michael's to make the crease and fold them. We were going to use a straight cutter to cut off the edges since the graphic didn't reach the edge but it was SUCH a pain that we just left it alone. We printed them on glossy white 8.5x11 paper that is a little thinner than cardstock. I designed the interior of the menu in MS word and my mom designed the front cover with some help from the graphics gurus at her office. The designing and printing was super easy though!
Here's how they came out...
ETA: We did one per guest.
