Ok...Leslie ---- I need you to go over again that a person's last name doesn't change their soul.....yadda yadda yadda ....
I'm feeling blue and don't want to go start this process.....

OK here we go LEESE.
I have been single for many years and always looked forward to the day when I would be married and change my last name. Why? Because it marks a new stage of my life. It is not a betrayal of my family or my father's name. It doesnt change who I am on the inside one bit. I also doesn't make me less of a professional in my field. If I can adjust, so can people who I have been working with for the past ten years despite the fact that my new last name is a complete and total phonetic atrocity.
A name is a moniker. It does not define your heart, your soul, your passions and your existence. I have held on to my last name for about 10 years longer than I thought I would. My father, had he been alive today, would have told me it was nonsense NOT to take my husband's name. He would have been proud of me and of the new son he acquired. Nothing would have made him more proud than for me to be Mrs. S. Things come full circle. You pass your life lessons down through experience and not by the name on a driver's license or a bank account. At least thats how I see it. May not work for everyone but it works for me!

I was excited to take DH's name. I too hve been single much longer than I thought I would be. DH and I are eachother's family now, our own family. I look at it as also the first step in our forming our new family life together. Next step will be

SS was rather easy actually. It is waiting on line at DMV that will drive you batty. Took me 45 minutes just to get my number and only about 10 minutes after that. Now I have to wait til I go back to work to change everything else because I am on vacation. Make sure you change it at work BEFORE the bank if you have direct deposit on your pay checks or you could run into a problem if the names dont match. Banks take two seconds and they do it right infront of you. Employers may take a pay cycle or two before it shows up on a stub. Then I would contact your health insurance company if you are keeping your own so your name matches in their system and when you fill RXs.

Goldi-Your words are an inspiration! It is so true what you say..Changing your name is now a new chapter in your life!!!
I filled the forms out & going to SS this week!!! I can't wait to be Officially Mrs P!!!!

whoa! thanks...tons of info. i have the unique pleasure of having to get a new jersey licnese now.... and my darling husband keeps reminding me that i have 60 days upon moving to the state to get a new license.
i know i'll get this all done...i know it'll be fine. maybe i WILL take your maiden name! :)

Thanks. I don't judge what other people do its just that nowadays people look at me strange when I tell them I changed my name. Like I am supposed to be the Gloria Steinem of the new millenium.
