I am getting married this september. My fiance is in the military and we want to get married right away so I can live with him on the base instead of being away from him for another year. We were planning on doing a small wedding and having a big one next year but now we think we will just get married at town hall and have a small reception. Then have the big wedding next year. I don't know how to plan this or what I will need. SHould I still have a dj and a photographer at the reception? What things can I leave out since its a small wedding? If anyone know anything about this please help me!!!

I would say that you don't need to do expensive flowers as centerpieces...you can opt for candles or another less expensive idea. You can still have a photographer...but maybe not for 12 hours...just get one for the ceremony and the first few hours of the reception. You don't have to necessarily do a guest book...but I don't really think that will help you save any money. I'm sure if you start to price things around you could go for the less expensive options that are offered and it will still be nice. Good Luck and tell your fiance thanks for all he is doing.

I got married at town hall. My wedding is my one year anniversary.
We went out afterwards for lunch by ourselves and fed each other cake!
I guess if I had folks who wanted a reception, I’d go for the DJ and Invites. No registry necessary, no guest book necessary as hopefully their invited to the one next year, but you can pick up a cheap guest book at Michaels if you want to do it. Flowers aren’t important either, god awful expensive.

You can leave out anything you want. There are no set rules. You can get pretty creative.
You can definitely omit the guestbook. It doesn't cost anything to register so I don't think there's any reason to omit that.
If the flowers are not important to you, leave them out. If they are important, just have bouquets and no centerpieces. A lot of brides have made their own bouquets.
For photography, see if you can have a friend or relative take pictures. Or you can put out disposable cameras.
Unfortunately, I'm not one of the more creative people on this board so these ideas are not the most original. I think you have to set your priorities and budget and work from there.

If you plan to have a big wedding later, I think for the small ceremony and celebration you can scale down the invitations and flowers. Skip the DJ and maybe just have your own music playing. The registry is up to you, people will still by you gifts. You will want a photographer, but maybe you don't need them for as long and can get a scaled down package since you'll want the full blown package later.
Hope this helps. Just my opinion!

You def will not need a guest sign in book for a small wedding. Most weddings these days, even big ones don't have the guest sign in book.
For flowers, you could just maybe pick up some dozen roses from Costco $12 a dozen and they come in a variety of colors. Just then trim them up and buy ribbon from Micheals to tie around the stems. Doing it yourself would be much cheaper. Being that this is a small wedding, you only need a BM & MOH to witness the ceremony of marriage.
For a small reception, maybe just hire a one man DJ to plan music for dancing.
Invitations, don't get expensive one's that are all done up nice. Just buy invites like you would for a regular party at Party City or Halmark store and mail those out. You could have the people call in the RSVP.
Dress- get something simple at Macy's or Dressy dresses in Farmingdale in White or champagne color. Not the traditional bridal gown.
