I need Microsoft help!

I need Microsoft help!

I seriously need a course in MS word!!!

So, my mom bought a cute 5.5'x8.5' invite pack with reply cards from Target. She wants to make invites for a Sunday Brunch the day after the wedding. So I set up the page the way they say... but when I print, it wants to print in the center of the feed tray. Her printer has a slide bar that will set the invites to the right. But when you print, it tells you that you have the wrong paper in! What am I doing wrong? How do I get it to know to take the right side feed invites and center the verse!

Thanks!

Did you change the paper size in the Page Setup?

When you say, you set up the page the way they say - what do you mean ? What do they say?

They say...

1. Open a new word document.
2. Go to page set up, paper size and change settings to 5.5' wide x 8.5' long.
3. Write your invite wording and adjust font size and margins to your liking.

And that's really all they give.

I always have problems with these boxed invites (my SIL buys them all the time) and it takes so long to figure out how to print it right and I always forget what the heck we did to make it right.

I usually end up using a regular letter page setting and just set the margins so that 5.5' x 8.5' is left in the top right corner. But I want to learn how to do it right.

Most printers have a slide bar that pushes your smaller papers to the right side. Are these invites designed for printers that have a double slide bar to put your smaller papers in the center of the tray!? Or is this a Microsoft complication!?

Okay - try this:

While on the Word doc in question, go to File > Print > before you actually click okay to print anything, you will see a button near the top of the print window that says 'PROPERTIES' Click that.

On that window go to the Paper/Quality tab - go to the 'Size Is' option in the middle of that window - it is probably still at the default of 8,5 x 11; just under is a Custom button, click that and enter in the size that you set up in Word as the size of the document.

Let me know if this works now...

Re: I need Microsoft help!

I had this problem with my invites.

This is what I did:

Left some regular 8x11 paper in the tray. (If I didn't do this it would eat the envelopes for some reason) Then I put the envelope in however it wanted to print it (whether it be centered or off to the right)

Viola!! It took the envelope and printed without a problem!

I think the key was having paper in there already.

Nope!!!!!!! Would you effing believe that there is no custom setting in the properties!?!?!?!?! And no statement either... isn't that 8.5x5.5?

The closest I could find was 8x5 index card but selecting that still wants to feed from the center of the the tray!!!!!! And I was so excited that that was going to be it!!!!

And I cannot do the letter paper in the tray trick because then nothing holds the invites in place and they feed crooked!!!

Some how I have to get this shartin thing to print at the right gate and I know it's got to be something so forkin' simple!!!!!! I have a fair proficiency with this kind of stuff but knowing that one stupid little thing is the key!!!! And I have no clue!!!!

I still really want to figure out the right way to do this before I rig it into printing right! Because I go through this every time and I cannot stand it!!!!!

Laurie....... Where are you!?!?!?!?!?!? Do you know this?!?!?!?!?!

denise, this is why i almost killed my printer over the STDs...you have to change the page set up, when you go to 'file' and hit 'print' there is a tab on that window that pops up that says 'preferences' (printing preferences?) you have to navigate through this entire window until every possible spot is set up for the size of the paper. it took me 4 hours.
