I need painting HELP!

My DH and I are going to be painting our bedroom next week. We would like to do the shadow striping effect. It seems easy enough but I have a few questions for anyone who has done this in their house!

1- was it really easy?

2- what kind of paint did you use- flat, gloss, etc.

3- how wide did you make your stripes?

3- what color did you use? We want to do an ivory or taupe type of color- keep it light! I have heard that it's best on darker colors- is this true?

I just did my dining room - and before it was complete (we had mixed feelings about it) but you never know if it works or not until you are finished - that's with my experience anyway.
Well I did two seige greens (however, they are not as seige as I would of liked) but once the room was complete - I think it looks great.
I did them 6 inches apart - I also did them only on the top half of the room - and the bottom is painted solid - (with the darker color on the bottom) border in between -
I will take a picture tonight -
It's time consuming - but easy at the same time - we used flat paint and semi-gloss paint to give it more of an effect - however, you can do what ever you want.
I love your color choices - I think they will look great -
