My best friend from middle school just gave birth to her baby girl almost 2 weeks ago. She lives about 2 hours upstate from NYC. I'm really happy for her and I understand she is going through a huge adjustment, however when I e-mail her, leave a comment on facebook or call her, I'm lucky if I get an answer, but she can talk to her other friends with babies about her heartburn! I go to school full time and I'm trying hard to make plans to visit during my spring break otherwise I won't be able to visit until the semester is over and then I can go in June. She told me she still has family waiting to go up there and will let me know. I just feel like her family, while important, she always called me her sister and said that I was like family and I think she should make an exception for me since that's the only time I can go. Her family probably can go anytime between now and June. Its not like I asked to stay in her guest room at all. I told her I would get a hotel/motel room and stay there. I feel like I am going out of my way for her and that she doesn't care. Should I be feeling angry or is that wrong? Am I overreacting? What should I do because I don't want to stress her out further? P.S. She is supposed to be one of my bridesmaids too.

Re: I need some advice...
Should I send her an e-mail telling her how I feel? I would rather call her but she won't answer or call me back for days.

Re: I need some advice...
Sorry!
Maybe try to make sure she knows that is really the ONLY time you have available to go and visit. And how much it would mean to get to see her & the new baby??
i sometimes find the same thing-people get so consumed in what's going on in their own lives when they have babies (or get married) they don't right away think about how important the other people in the lives are to share this time with them. Make sense? She's got a lot of new responsiblities; stress; maybe just try to talk to her again about it and hope that it's not that personal against you.
Thanks

E-mail her and let her know that is the ONLY time you have to come up; otherwise you won't be able to see the baby until late summer.
I would wait until you're face to face to say how you feel kind of like you're getting the short end of the stick and how you thought you guys were closer.
Bringing it up over the phone/e-mail right now might back fire. Especially if she's very stressed. She could say yada yada yada-i thought you'd uderstand yada yada. KNow what i mean?

Re: I need some advice...
If this is a new behavior for her (she was previously good about returning calls etc pre baby), I would chalk it up to being overwhelmed as a new mother. Since she said she'd let you know about family visiting, the ball is in her court. I would wait a little longer for a response. If she still hasn't replied, write her an email reiterating how happy you are for her and that you can't wait to meet the baby. Say that you understand if she decides this spring break is not the best time to visit but you'd like to know either way so you can make the plans.
I have heard that alot of new mothers just want to be with their newborn for the first month or so without being overwhelmed by visitors...if this is the case, try not to take it personally.
If she doesn't respond to the email, I'd really consider that she's giving you the brush off for whatever reason.

i think you really need to try till you can get her on the phone and when you do, you really need to discuss how you feel. it's important that she knows before you truly walk aways from this situation.
good luck!

life brings in many circles of friends. you def have a right to feel that way though. just be the best friend YOU can be and the rest of the fate of the friendship is up to her then!

Re: I need some advice...
I think you need to just stop and wait for ½ a second.
she JUST had a baby 2 weeks ago. it takes a long time to adjust - don't forget, your up at all hours of the day, your sleep deprived and your barely eating. all you do is take care of the baby. and while, you love the baby - its still takes time to adjust to things especially since the baby is not on a schedule yet.
by the time spring break rolls around - the baby will be about 1 month old. i know for a fact that unfortunately, it takes some lazy people more than 1 month to come by and visit family - and that's family! it just happens that way. let her have her time with her family and she'll let you know when you can come visit her if spring break isn't good for her.
she doesn't get back to you on FB - leave a message. if after a week she doesn't get back to you, call her. if she doesn't get back to you then after another couple of days, leave another message. after the 3rd try, the initiative to speak to you is up to her. you can't force someone to talk to you no matter how close you are or used to be.
People grow apart and its a apart of life. she may have thought of you being 'like a sister' to her but things may have changed. its no one's fault but she may have different priorities in life now. with that said, maybe you should re-thin having her in your BP if things keep on this way and after you have spoken to her about it. i would avoid telling her she will be a BM until this is settled.
it wouldn't be the end of the world if you saw your friend and the baby in the summer. maybe that would be more convenient for her.

Re: I need some advice...
I agree. I think you should just give ur friend sometime. Just like when you got engaged and all you could do was talking about the proposal and your pending wedding, all your friend can focus on is her baby and all the overwhelming things that's going on now. She has this little baby who she has to devote all her time to, everyone (family and friends) wants to come see her and while basking in her new joy, are prolly making her really flustered. Just give her time to adjust. Send her an email letting her know u care and u will be there when she needs you. If in a month or so, she doesn't get back tp you, then you can let her know how you feel :)

If the summer is more convenient for her, that is fine with me. I just need her to let me know that. And I just want to make sure she knows that so she doesn't tell me 'How come you didn't come see the baby yet? Its been like 5 months'. I don't have a lot of money to spend on this and I want ample amount of time to plan for it. I mean she eventually got back to my first message (its not like she's totally ignoring me) but it takes her a couple days. My point is, a friend of hers has a baby, and once every other day or every day she takes a second to make a baby comment with her, but it will take her the same amount of time to shoot me a quick answer to my e-mail. That's all I want. Just to know what the story is. God forbid I left her hanging like that she would shoot me.

Re: I need some advice...
everyone has their priorities, sometimes when they get married and have kids they change. Sorry if that sounds mean, but I'm speaking from experience, sometimes theres nothing you can do, but yea atleast give her a call and you can feel that you tried.
